BS Button
Woo, Since you are so kind so as to lend/give your dearest of friends your Bose 901's. What do you think about those Cornwalls for me? I could re-veneer those puppies and they'd be in a good home. Think it over...
binkt
If you do not listen to vinyl, you should research the Transcendent sound grounded grid preamp or Curcio Audio Engineering (CAE) Daniel. If you need a phono section, I suggest looking at the CAE Dynaco PAS modification. I have no idea if you are willing to learn or posess the minimum skills needed to bring the kit version of these products to reality but the design, cost effectiveness and above all the sound and quietness of these products are worth the experience. Woodog
BS, The loudness contour on the 299B I scored recently (and have feeding the Khorns) is not exactly to my liking, and I've taken to just listening to everything flat. It ain't bad, ya know. The loudness contour on the 355 is wonderful at low volumes. There is the Scott 130 preamp, but that ain't a new thing. re: your question on the Cornwalls... uh.. NO!! Southern
Woo, The loudness or contour button is something that seems to be a major sticking point with me. I too would like to have a tube pre with rather than without. What other options are there? I suppose that I could pick up a subharmonic synthesiser for dirt cheap, but??? It does not appear that there is a good new pre with a contour button that's not a gajillion bucks? My Dynaco tube pre-amp (PAS-2) mates perfectly with my Dynaco ST-70 amp. The PAS-2 has a loudness switch but I don't use mine since the tubes sound so sweet over the Klipsch speakers that I never play at "background" volume levels.
