rigma
I just purchased a new home, with a 21'x24' theater room. The walls where front speakers and 65" widescreen will go are 54" tall then vault to 14'. My previous set up used 1 LaScala with 40'' TV sitting on top as the center. Due to wall Ht. I can't place TV on top of speaker. New setup will be Klipschorn front, 2 Lascala(mono signal) as center, 1 on each side of TV and LaScala for rear surround. My concern is any possible negative effect of using the 2 center LaScalas in this fashion. Cost is not a factor as I curently own all these speakers. soundog
LaScalas together as a center channel will have a different impedance than the Klipschorns, I use two sets of Heresy components with one crossover (two horns on top of the monitor; two horns and two woofers on the bottom) To prevent stressing my receiver I wired the woofers in series (raising their impedance) and the mid and tweeter horns in parallel (lowering their impedance. It works well. although I use the center channel and surrounds only for DVDs and Videotapes. The rear 6th channel consists of two LaSxalas in parallel, however. For some reason using just one center crossover with all the components in parallel would overload the amp. Perhaps someone could explain why this is so. I also cut the center and surround channels off at 60Hz and send the lower frequencies to the subs with the .1 LFEs but run the Klipsvhorns full tilt which produces better bass than running all full tilt. rigma
Thanks, Soundog. I will be driving each with its own Crown amp in mono. Just concerned about two speakers that close with the same output clashing or something. Not shure just have not seen it done before, although it seems it should work fine. Kevin S
I once used two LaScalas for the center channel, with a "tabletop" 50" TV on top of them. I had no problem running them at all. However, I have found that if you position two center channels speakers to the sides of the TV, it pulls the dialog to the side of the TV that you are sitting on, if you are not sitting dead center. I found this unacceptable, and it must be the reason that the center channel is always recommended for on top of the TV as the first choice, and below it as the less satisfactory alternative. Hope this helps. ------------------ L/C/R: Klipsch Heresy II Surround: Klipsch RS-3 Subwoofers: 2 HSU-VTF-2 Pre/Pro/Tuner: McIntosh MX-132 AMP: McIntosh MC-7205 DVD: McIntosh MVP-831 CD Transport: Pioneer PD-F908 100 Disc Changer Turntable: Denon DP-72L Cassette: Nakamichi BX-1 T.V. : Mitsubishi 55905 SAT/HDTV: RCA DTC-100 Surge Protector: Monster Power HTS-5000
WMcD
Certainly the set up will not be bad. However, I suspect you'll find the problem which Kevin S. describes. The two LS running mono will give a center channel, but only at the sweet spot when you're right between them. So the important center channel image will suffer. The optimum would probably be one LS above the TV. Mabybe you can hang it on the wall rather than stressing the TV cabinet. Or maybe build a bridge over the TV. If this is done, you might place the LS upside down so the tweeter and squaker are closer to the viewing area. An alternative is to place a single LS on its side in front of the tube. I certainly can promise anything, but you might experiment, particularly with the latter, just for fun. Gil
