Flason
Looks like after the Hurricane wiped out his house and posessions, Clarence Gatemouth Brown lost the will to live this last weekend. I really liked his music and will truely miss seeing him at Skippers Smokehouse in Tampa. I once had a conversation with him at Skippers in the parking lot and he was a real nice "down to earth" guy. Born2RockU
Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, perhaps the most versatile of all blues-based musicians, died Saturday at age eighty-one of complications from lung cancer and heart disease. A longtime resident of Slidell, Louisiana, just outside New Orleans, the Blues Foundation Hall of Famer recently lost his home to Hurricane Katrina and had been preparing to relocate to Austin. colterphoto1
Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown had a great contribution to the 'Whole Lotta Blues' tribute to Led Zeppelin. Track 8 on the CD is Zep's 'Rock and Roll' with Brown's band. Liner notes: Born in 1924 in VInton. Louisiana, Brown's career has cut an impressive swathe across not only blues, but also jazz, country, swing, bluegrass and zedyco. Newsweek has referred to him as a 'virtuoso talent". He will be missed. Anyone else have any great Gatemouth tracks or CD's to review? Seems like we're losing a legend a week around here. dragonfyr
For anyone interested in Gatemouth Brown's material, may I suggest checking out Moe Denham's site and material at: http://www.moedenham.com/Moe played with Gatemouth for many years and adds quite a bit in his own right!
