jerseydevil
I have a question about Klipsch speakers. How do the Quartets differ from the Hersey line? What type of horn is in Quartets?
Olorin
The Quartet is larger. It uses the K-76K tweeter, same as is found on the Academy and the Tangent 10, mounted to a 90 x 40 exponential horn like pretty much every other pre-Reference Klipsch tweeter. It uses the K-61K midrange on a tractrix horn, same as the Forte II and the Chorus II. It uses a 10" woofer instead of the Heresy's 12", and it uses the same 12" passive radiator as the original Forte. It sounds different. The highs extend beyond the capabilities of the Heresy's K-77. I think it is more detailed and a little more relaxed in sound than the Heresy is. The midrange is definitely not as forward as the Heresy's. Bass is deeper. IMO it is better balanced and easier to listen to than the Heresy. If I had to choose between the two, I would choose the Quartet. I own both. WMcD
I agree with Olorin although I've not heard a side by side comparison. There is an interesting progression. We start with the H2 which was no so far from the H1 but used the Klipsch plastic tweeter rather than the K-77 from EV, and the Klipsch plastic midrange. The Forte had a bigger box and the passive radiator which did result in much better bass. It got a rave review in the press. Later the Chorus came out with a bigger box and a vented bigger bass radiator, very similar mid and tweeter. The Klipsch people created the "Tractrix" midrange and liked it a lot. It was put in the Forte box with an enhanced woofer system. Let me call this the momma bear. Then came the Chorus II which went to a passive bass rather than vented and the Tractrix. So it is the bigger brother to the Forte II and similar in design overall. This was papa bear. Later the line was completed with the Quartet. This had similar mid and tweeter to the Forte II and thus is the baby bear of the lineup. It has a smaller box than the Fortes and is closer to the Heresy in size, though it and the rest of the bears are floor standers. So it was quite a trip to get from the H2 to the Quartet.
