SCOOTERDOG
It's been a few crazy days. Thursday night I flew out to SF to see Porcupine Tree on Friday night with my son. Outstanding concert! Anyway flew back home Saturday and got home around 2pm. It's like ok time to continue on my HT. Before I left I had finished about 98% of the framing and wiring. The other 2% will be done tomorrow as my last few wall plates will be here. Anyway yesterday and today saw lots of sheetrock work, man what a pain cutting all the openings and the various cuts I had to make. I got one whole side done and was able to install the most of the insulation. This week I will sheetrock the back and do all the little stuff before I start to tape and sand. Here are several pics I took showing my progress...excuse the mess. scooter

formica
Looking good! Whatare your overall dimensions (LxWxH)? EDIT: what's the nook at the rear, equipement and rear channel? Iknow you posted a drawing way back, but the new search is really poor. Thisthread http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/576987/ShowPost.aspx only has the non-dimensioneddrawings... In any case, you're making good time and we can already seethe light at the end of the tunnel. Itwon't be long and we'll be looking at those finished pics... Rob Hey Rob, Room is now 26Lx18wx7'9"h after adding the wall. The nook with the light on is where the equipment will be housed with a door in the back for easy access to the back of all of the equipment. The other nook is for DVD's. What you can't see yet as I have not cut it out is below the equipment nook is storage for all of my laserdisc's. The outlet above the equipment nook is for the rear surround banana plugs. The ones above the dvd nook is for rgb component, hdmi hookups to the projector and the other one is the speaker banana plugs for the side "B" surround hookups. I wanted to make sure I could change speaker cable by just using banana plugs since all of the wiring is in the walls. I used 12 guage speaker wire going to all of the outlets. What really kills me is the price for these outlets. The hdmi outlet was 35 bucks plus another 40 for the 10' hdmi cable. Then you throw in the rgb component cables etc. and my wiring cost were around 300 bucks! But I really wanted to make sure that I was setup for the near future especially when it comes to HD. Tonight I will finish up the small details befor I sheetrock the back and then I can start mudding. Once the wall is done (non painted) I will finish the second column that houses the heresy's (one is completed) and sconces and then I will start on the stage. I figure I should be done by December for this phase. scooter
Tom Adams
Thanks for the progress update pics scooter. Looks like you're making serious headway. Looking forward to seeing the completed theater. You have a ballpark idea for a finish date? BTW, you're probably gonna hate me for saying this, but I have several of those banana speaker jack plates that I'm not using (and don't plan to use) that I would've glady given to you for the cost of shipping. If anyone reading this wants them, send me a note and they're yours. Also, a trick I Iearned for making cutouts in sheetrock is to use a Dremel or Rotorzip. To make the cutout you plunge the bit in the general area of the outlet box's center then just push the bit towards the side of the box and let the inside edges of the box be your cutout guide. The outlet box gets a little bit scored but not bad enough to make any difference as long as you keep the bit moving around the box. This method beats the crap outta measuring the cutout locations and then laying that out on the sheetrock. Hope my description makes sense. Keep us posted scooter. I myself am getting closer to hanging my screen. With some luck, my HT will be finished by Thanksgiving. Tom
SCOOTERDOG
Yes cutting those holes was a major pain especially when the sheetrock is 5/8 thick! Thanks for the offer on the outlets, but o'well I've got them all now. will keep you all posted. scooter
TEXASRONANDTRISH
Looks good Scooter, you must have an understanding mate[] I'm going to try such an adventure next year, if the boss will approve my plans[]
SCOOTERDOG
I have been talking about doing this for a few years now. I have had rooms for just my stuff in the past but nothing like what I am creating. I figured if I talked it up long enough, and I did my own work then the cost would be acceptable. So there is my advise talk it up long enough and let her buy a few things then WHAM! Do it![]
colterphoto1
why the decision for 5/8 sheetrock?
SCOOTERDOG
The sheetrock I bought is designed for sound proofing. A lot of guy's are using mating 2 sheets of 1/2" and using green glue to adhere them together for this. I thought I would go with this stuff instead and less work. I also filled the wall with R13 that is designed for sound proofing...will se how long that last.[6]
damonrpayne
Scooterdog: I don't think I want to do 2 layers of drywall in my room, but I'm curious about this special soundproofing insulation. Is that something you can just get at home depot or?...
SCOOTERDOG
Honestly I think its just good insulation but it does state its for sound proofing, its made by Johns Manville, I got this at Lowes. But I also used this 1.5" thick foam ( its blue) from Lowes as well. It comes in 4x8 sheets and you just cut it to size. In all reality I am not to worried since the HT is in the basement. Just having it enclosed with thick sheetrock and insulation should do a pretty good job. But I think I will really benefit as far as keeping the HT warmer during the winter, basements can get cool and heat rises. scooter
gibby214
Awesome scooter. Make sure to keep the dust out of the projector. I took mine down for a couple weeks while sanding, and till the dust settled. I garbage bag mine even for light dusty projects. If your PJ is anything like mine it sucks some serious air to keep the bulb cool. Great job What color of paint you gonna use?
