TommyC
I heard a comment in passing tonight and didn't have a chance to hear the reasoning behind it. It was stated that in a 2.1 system (2 speakers and 1 subwoofer) you should never center the sub on the front wall between the speakers. True? False? either/or? Reasons? Thanks! Speedball
..........great question Tommy. Mine just happens to be off to one side and for cosmetic reasons a smaller one would look great in the center. Hopefully someone has an explanation why I shouldn't try a smaller one in the center. TheEAR
Urban legend. [] In fact the ideal position for a subwoofer is in the spot it blends best with the room, creating the least negative interaction.Since most subwoofers are not cut 40Hz down and more around 80Hz the ideal spot not to localise the sub would be alongside the front wall and dead center between the front speakers. Petrol
for my pc, I have it on the floor, under the desk, centered between the L & R channels. for my 'lil' HT system, I have the sub on the floor, front wall, dead center for my living room set up, I have it very near my right channel speaker, about 3' from the corner of the room and 1' from the wall (where it best fits around the furnature layout)
sivadselim
It's not the "centering between the speakers" that is supposedly undesirable; that's probably desirable. It's symmetrically centering it along a wall in a room that supposedly creates some undesirable acoustic anomolies that can supposedly be avoided by NOT centering it along said wall. Now on the above,I agree. I never have any subs placed dead center in the room.
