maxg
What a baboon I am!! I finally found a movie with a decent sound-track to listen to over the system. Movie in question was King Arthur - which I guess came out last year and was on one of the film channels last night. I watched the first half through the TV speakers (not planned - just forgot) and then wacked it through the system. That was just about as dramatic a change as I have ever experienced. Aside from the Bass line - which was completely missing over the TV speakers - the whole move just came to life in a very dramatic way. Sound seemed to fill the entire room (and I was not listening at huge volume). What is surprising is how well this expanded sonic horizon gelled with the picture. My TV is not that big (32 inch) and I would have expected this wall of sound to simply drown the image but that is not what happened at all. Instead I was drawn into the movie in a way I do not remember ever experiencing. The film itself is rather good in a gritty heroic kind of way and based on the new theories as to the origins of the Arthurian legends. I would have enjoyed it just using the TV sound - but with this mock movie setup (still only 2 channels) it was just mind blowing. Just thought I would share. JohnA
We got the same effect in Hope with Jubilee mains, Belle center and K-horn rears when we watched "The Matrix". The sub was an RSW-15. The TV was also a 32", but I never noticed! I was sucked into the movie so that I felt like I was standing around in the corners watching Neo get shot up. sfogg
Max, The *sound* is what makes the movie experience IME. The whole 'hi-fi' movement started in theaters. A big picture is nice to have too but given the choice between great sound and large picture I'd take great sound. Shawn
