Anyone ever try the K-67-DV Tweeter from the RF7 in the RF5? The RC7 is basically this config in a smaller box. Benefits? Deficits (other than cost) to sound? Any comments?

Mark

Bump again! Looking for any opinions regarding this idea. Essentially this would turn the RF5 into a floorstanding RC7 with the obvious changes in bass etc - keeping all else in the RF5 the same.

Ok, Mark - I'll give it a stab. You probably cannot use your horns from the RF5 because of the difference in throat size so you probably have to get new horns as well. That being said, I cannot see any downside (other than the cost of acquiring the new horns and drivers) of putting the RF7 horns in RF5s. The RF5s have a higher crossover point so that is not an issue. The cutout for both speakers is 8 inches square - so that is not a problem. Having heard RF5s before and having owned all from the Reference seven line, the superior horn in the RF7 is what sets it apart from the rest (and some say - so revealing - makes it unforgiving). So, you would have the advantage of having three matched horns across the front (with your RC7).

The issue you may have is that the RF7 horn is more efficient than the RF5 horn, and you may need to attentuate it somehow - to take it down a notch in volume (else it is too hot compared to the 8 inch woofs). You would probably need an additional resistor in the crossover somewhere to do that - but that is beyond my capability. You may want to phrase the question related to modding a RF5 crossover in that manner.

If you can get a set of the horns and drivers for a reasonable price, I'd say - go for it.....

Carl.
