billyjoe72
I hooked everything up and powered it with an old pioneer svx receiver or something of that nature and it kicks out some bass ok. It distorts fairly easy. I'm sure it's the power. I hope so anyway. The driver hardly even moves. Makes my garage rock out. It's amazing how much fuller the sound is with the driver moving about 1/4 ". Tell me the power is junk!!!!!!!!!![] Waiting on the rain delay to end in nascar. Also .................Go Bucks. toodles
Jay481985
sounds like the reciever cannot keep up with 4 ohms....... If it is not moving much then its the source/amp
billyjoe72
Finally, I can sign in. I've been off work this week refinishing my hardwood floors. Man I'm tired. Anyhow, I plugged the driver and PR's in last weekend and sealed up the opening for the amp. It does pretty good with the little receiver I used. Really made the movies open up. It sounds about as good as my KSW 200 with that little receiver pushing it. Believe it or not. But guess what....? I just got off parts express website two minutes ago and bought myself alittle Dayton 1000. I just realized they are right here in ohio with me. Should be here monday or tuesday I'm sure. Let the good times roll.[] toodles
Jay481985
is that the dayton 1000 watt plate amp? Umm that is a bit too much don't you think?
billyjoe72
Nah....If it is. I can build a bigger and better sub later...[] If I remember right Dr.Who and us were discussing that issue in the beginning. toodles.
billyjoe72
Jasonbart...why are you rating my thread poor? You make me want to cry. I spend all this time and money for a poor rating. It's not that boring is it.[:'(][|-)] toodles
billyjoe72
Sub is still in the garage. The finishwork is not completed yet. That will take some time. I received my amp yesterday and temporarily bolted it in. Everything inside is sealed with silicone, no dampening material yet. The PR's, amp and driver don't have gaskets yet either. I started tinkering with it. My god! Played a few cd's. Dave Matthews sounded good. It seems to be fairly musical. Then I started hitting the dvd's. A few of the popular ones for bass. Matrix, U-571 etc. But when I put in LOTR two towers, marsh scene when the wraiths are flying over. WOW. The entire garage creeked and cried. Incredible. I like the adjustments on the amp. I can totally turn off any higher frequency. Not a peep out of it until needed. I might go to rat shack and get a meter just to see what its putting out. Thanks for all the input on this project. It was a good learning experience. I'll post some pictures as the finish work gets underway. [][H][8] toodles Bill
Jay481985
oh no.... did you make sure that the silicon was completely free of the smell? I forgot to tell you that the uric acid (the piss smell) is very very bad to the woofer..... In fact companies to not warantee the sub from damage to the rubber surrounds due to silicon. Make sure it is completely free of smell and take that damnj woofer out now
billyjoe72
Yea. I sealed it about a 3-4 weeks ago.

DrWho
Sub is still in the garage...The entire garage creeked and cried.... Wow, just wait till you get it inside where you will have more room gain to play with! Btw, 1000W is nowhere too much for this driver...the last thing you want is a clipping amp. billyjoe72
Just an update. I've been real busy lately with work, kids, wife, dog, fish, blah blah. As said before, I kicked her and the kids out of the house and sanded and refinished my floors. Doing some had rails and reversing doors for an elderly couple next door. Just running myself ragged. I haven't had the time but I think for the finish I will look into a 4 x 8 sheet of whatever is prettiest veneer locally here and cover the sides. I got black grill cloth and connectors from partsexpress but I can't start on that yet because a friend of mine borrowed all three of my nailing guns for a few weeks. I should get them back this weekend maybe. I hope so, because I have baseboard all painted and ready to install. I've got one cover cut out and routered, I'm just waiting on the guns. I do have a question on the inside. What would you guys recommend using? Egg crate or a flat surfaced insulation. I would say it is a little boomy right now. Not bad, just a little. It surely does hit low. Some things I can't hear, I just feel my pant legs moving. It's amazing how much energy that arsenal 12 puts out. I've learned alot on construction. You CANNOT ignore bracing. That's alot of air moving fast and with authority. I'm torn right now on building a second different enclosure with a four sided design just to see the difference. ( use the same parts of course. ) I'm not made of money[] I will more than likely do it when the weather breaks. I have it wired for eight ohms right now because the amp can't handle 2 ohms. I haven't and won't even try. Congrats on your 5000 posts DrWho. You sure do talk alot.[] Again thanks to you and Jay for the input. Feel free to flap your lips some more. I may get an spl meter just to tinker. That seems to be a good reference for explaining sound in words. Toodles.
