Sensitivity specs

I noticed that the new LaScala II is actually 1db more sensitive than

the original yet I was told that the new drivers are actually 1 to 2db

less than the old ones. So, how can that be? Does anyone

know if the original specs of 104db 1w/1m were anechoic and the new

ones I will bet have room gain added to the tune of 4-6 db. Just

curious. If anyone is interested I have attached the frequency response

curves of the some of the original heritage loudspeakers.

There is a noticable trend of Klipsch "freshening" the specs. Since the "tests" conditions are not explained, take it with a grain of salt. Sensitivity depends on the frequency. And in the case of a "peaky" response, who knows - I might take the highest frequency peak and publish that, if it were me and I felt unscrupulous that day!

Be skeptical of published specs by ANY manufacturer. It's always a safe bet!

Well the real question is "what does it matter?"

The only purpose for sensitivity specs is to calculate the wattage

needed for target SPL's. A lot of people confuse sensitivity with

efficiency - and since both the old drivers and the new drivers have

identical size diaphragms and waveguides, then the efficiency is going

to be extremely close to identical.
