Advice on Matching Center with Forte's

Recommended Posts

I have an orginal set of Forte's which were passed down by a family member. Need advice on

matching center... See lots of recommendations for matching center with the Forte II's. Assuming these

recommendations can be used with the Forte, any comments on the following as potential centers

1) Another Forte

2) Heresey II

3) Academy

4) KLF-C3

5) RC-35

Additionally, I have a Yamaha RX-V557 rated at 95w/channel (6.1), will this provide suitable power, or

should I have purchased something different/better...

Thanks

I use a Quartet as a center between my Forte IIs. Being the smallest in

the Quarter-Forte-Chorus line, it shares the midrange and tweeter with

the FII, and would be a very close match for the original Forte

as well. The Q is smaller of course (if you have room on a shelf or

atop the TV) and the riser can be taken off for horizontal placement.

It is still makes for a ~50lb center, but some large RPTVs or shelves

could handle it. The Academy is designed as the matching center,

but weren't made for very long and now they only come up on Ebay

every couple of months or so, and command higher prices now than when

new , typically around $500-700, and sometimes more.

Some here will make a strong claim that an exact match is critical,

while some are less convinced of that as an absolute necessity. I would

not mix the Reference line with the Heritage line, but others

have used, in addition to your first 3-4, a KLF-C7, a KT-LCR, and a KG

2.2v, with some satisfaction. These seem to come closer to a pleasing

match for many, as compared to the KV-1/2/3/4 line of dedicated centers.

Your receiver will work just fine. All these speakers are very efficient, and don't require much power to sound great and loud.
