TheEAR
This question is very loose. What do you listen to mostly, what are your listening habbits(output wise). It is always a good idea to have some headroom to space,at least 6dB of uncompressed headroom above the max you listen to,just in case. For larger rooms where you will listen mostly to movies a RSW15 does the trick, two if you like your playback on the louder side and do not want to push the subs too hard too often. For music and to reproduce pipe organs you need at least(yes at least) dual Klipsch THX subs with the matching amp.You gain alot below 31.5Hz where the real deal subwoofing gets serious. For even more abuss deep bass you can go dual SVS PB2-Plus subs, even more output below 20Hz,and solid output to 16hz.16Hz being the magic number to bring satisfactory performance of justa bout any instrument known to man. Above this you have very costly solutions withs ervo control to reduce distortion to the inaudible. But then the price jumps like a rocket.take for example four Velodyne DD18's,stacked two by two. DrWho
What's the budget, your listening habits (SPL and %music/HT), and is DIY an option?

Do not even speak of DIY here or Jeff may sue as you need to use glue, clamps,a saw,a drill and tools! Tools are dangerous!
