RTTR
I've pretty much decided to go the route of a dedicated audo PC rather then a high end CD player. My plans are to use a 800Mhz P3 I have laying around, 512MB of SDRAM, GF3 with ViVO, a sleek aluminum HTPC case, and my ATI Remote Wonder II RF.. I just simply can not decide on a sound card though, I have it narrowed down to M-Audio Audiophile 192 or the new Creative X-Fi, this system will be primarily for lossless 2 channel audio. I also have an Audigy 2 in my main system (the one I'm typing this on) and was thinking about using that, I haven't really looked at comparisons between all the top cards, but how much different can it really be from my Audigy 2? Jay481985
buy both on newegg or jandr or bhphotovideo and send the one you dislike back!
DrWho
For strictly 2-channel you should look into some of the Firewire/USB options out there....getting the DAC out of the EMF filled computer case will have a far bigger impact on the sound than the quality of the DAC being implemented. Now to think of some cards out there that aren't insanely priced... One other thing you might consider is sending the digital output from your audigy2 into a dedicated DAC or reciever with a good prestage. ranjith
I hear good things about the M-audio's audiophile soundcard. Or as Who states, try a good DAC into a good pre. Either of the option should yield good results.
