Coytee
My grandfather passed away in 1989. I obtained a couple of old tube radios from his house I'll try to post pics tomorrow. Anyways they (2 radios) have these tubes in them 2 Sylvania 35Z5 (with GT USA also on tube) It MIGHT say 3525 instead of Z 2 Sylvania 50L6 GT 1 RCA 12SQ7 1 Sylvania 12SQ7 2 RCA 12SK7 1 Emerson 12SA7 1 Admiral 12SA7 1 Sylvania 3525 (or is this the 35Z5?) I plugged these in one time since his death, probably when I got them. They were stored in his basement, probably for years before his passing. Some of the tubes look pristine so I can now see how NOS tubes can still look "new" in spite of being very old. Some of the 'tubes' are black metal casings? ONE of the tubes (probably the Emerson 12SA7) is BLACK on the inside of the tube. I presume that black is bad and the tube 'blew up' somehow internally. Anyways, if these are considered worthy for any use, I might drag these over to Terry DeWick to see if he'll check them...I might otherwise just toss the old radios...well, I might first see if they're any old radios on ebay. As far as I know, these are AM only, no fm. My curioisty is more to do with the old tubes than the radios... are these usable by anyone with tube amps or are they more for likes of the radio? codhead
Your black 12SA7 may have been designed that way. These are all 12SA7's - check out the one on the left. If yours looks similar, it's probably what they call a "carbonized bulb" tube. Think of it as a form of shielding.
NOSValves
No big $ tubes in the list.
