Zathras Posted February 13, 2001 Posted February 13, 2001 If you get a set of 4.1 Klipsch's and have a 5.1 soundcard can you buy a center channel speaker and add that to the Klipsch's? Quote
Seb Posted February 13, 2001 Posted February 13, 2001 yes it would be too complicated for the added value imho, and the other speaker probably would not match. Quote
Zathras Posted February 13, 2001 Author Posted February 13, 2001 Complicated? What would be involved? I'm assuming that there would be a fifth channel output on the back of the soundcard that you would plug the speaker into. Ideally you would just plug an amplified speaker into it and be good to go. Bocaj Posted February 13, 2001 Posted February 13, 2001 I've heard sentiments like Zathra's on many occasions desiring a center channel. I've also heard, and by now understand, the argument that a center channel is extraneous when front speakers aren't very distant apart when using a "phantom center". But do you suppose Klipch will eventually tire of explaining the merits of a powerful and quality 4.1 system (as some on this BB have), and appease that demand, extraneous or not? Opinions? Quote
rschauer Posted February 13, 2001 Posted February 13, 2001 I truely do hope that Klipsh does decide to offer a 5.1 system sometime in the near future. I am very impressed with thte speaker system, and I bought them before most people even knew about them. However Dolby 4 channel surround sound in no way compares to dolby 5.1 or even dts. I love these speakers but there is so much more to be heard in a true 5.1 system, not just the center channel. Please Klipsch I am begging for 5.1 Quote
Seb Posted February 13, 2001 Posted February 13, 2001 in my humble opinion. took me a while to figure it out too... :-) Quote
Windstorm Posted February 13, 2001 Posted February 13, 2001 I agree with rschauer.. My friend has the cambridge dtt2500 and although the sound quality sucks, DVD surround sound is much more noticeable/effective than with my pros. ------------------ Caring is the first step toward disappointment. Zathras Posted February 13, 2001 Author Posted February 13, 2001 I agree in a normal computer set up a fifth channel isn't needed. However, if you spread your speakers far enough apart I think a center channel would be necessary. Spreading the speakers far apart enough sounds artificial because you are expecting some sound to be comming directly from the screen. I've moved my speakers far apart before to get better sound cues from my first person shooter games. Against gluegun's advice I want to try the Klipsch's in my living room where they will be 8 feet apart. Could someone look at the back of their SB Live! or Acoustic Edge 5.1 card and tell me if there is an output for a fifth channel? If you could post a photo that would be even better. Quote
Gxcad Posted February 13, 2001 Posted February 13, 2001 I wonder if people would buy sats off me?? I was thinking of selling them on ebay sometime in the future... whaddaya think? How much would I get per sat?-Gxcadc> Quote
Silver00Spike Posted February 13, 2001 Posted February 13, 2001 1 trillion dollars, and a new car!!!!! Quote
Dan F Posted February 14, 2001 Posted February 14, 2001 FWIW, there is still the 6.2 option for 5 channel playback, using a ProMedia 2.1 and the v.2-400. To do this, spread the left and right sats apart, and place a 2.1 system sats on either side (or on top) of the monitor. -djf Quote
Sam_D Posted February 14, 2001 Posted February 14, 2001 No, there's no "5.1" jack or output for a 5th speaker. The only thing I could think of for something like that (without buying much of anything) would be get a y-adapter and plug it into the soundcard, or use the headphone jack on the CP-1. FWIW?? Quote
Zathras Posted February 14, 2001 Author Posted February 14, 2001 For what it's worth then I guess I won't be be getting a set of Klipsch's until they come out with their 5.1 system. So how are the 5 channels handled then? My SB Live! 4.1 card has 2 jacks, one for the front channels and one for the rears. Someone post a reply and I'll brb Quote
Seb Posted February 15, 2001 Posted February 15, 2001 what about the 6.2 system? it would work as well or better than a 5.1 system... Quote
Zathras Posted February 15, 2001 Author Posted February 15, 2001 5.1 or 6.2, either sounds good to me. All I want to know is how you drive that fifth channel from an SB Live! or Acoustic Edge? Quote
Seb Posted February 15, 2001 Posted February 15, 2001 if you are using an sblive 5.1 or an acoustic edge, nothing is easier. center channel out into the 2.1 front and rear outs into the 4.1 or v2.400 set sub to no and all speakers to large. it's easiest with the AE because it's so configurable... Quote
Zathras Posted February 15, 2001 Author Posted February 15, 2001 Sam_D said there was no 5th channel output jack on the back of the SB Live! or AE so how do you send the center channel out to the 2.1's Seb? Quote
Jake Da Snake Posted February 22, 2001 Posted February 22, 2001 You need a SBlive 5.1 or a SBlive 4.1 and digital out with a DD decoder to have center channel effects. or some other 5.1 or 4.1 sound card w/ digital out. Quote
