Denon 4806 Floor Model

Showcase Home Entertainment just put the floor model of the Denon 4806 on sale for $2,499. I really want to take advantage of this price break, and was wondering if anyone had experience with purchasing floor model receivers. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Honesty, for that kind of money may I suggest you look into purchasing a component based system comprising of an amp and a pre/pro. I spent about 2 grand for a 7.1, 2 zoned pre/pro and a 5 channel amp which is one hell of a deal imo.

The benefits would be more efficient handling of power, a more detailed soundstage and some degree of future proofing as for upgradability.

BTW, which speakers are you looking at running in your system?

Nothing wrong with buying the floor model - as long as you are getting the full factory warranty. With most modern electronics, if it's going to fail, it's probably going to do it within the first 30 days - or it's going to last for a long time. The floor model is just "broken in."

That said, I'd second the recomendation to go for separates. A receiver is allways a compromise.

Floor models tend to be missing small things like the remote control and the charger for it etc. Be sure that the remote, manual and any other necessary item is included.

My Pioneer 59TXi was a floor model with the full two year warrant. It has been problem free. It had one very small ding that I spotted before purchase.

Seems like for that kind of money you could do better than a used Denon!
