Neek
Just built ALK crossovers for my older Klipsch K-horns, they sound great! Thank you Al, for posting your schematic and parts list. I find on some recordings that I would like to fine tune the squaker setting between taps. I don't have tone controls on my line-stage and was wondering how I could fine tune the network, maybe set the higher tap and pad it down? I'm not sure? I don't want to mess up the impedance? Any idea's or suggestions? Again, thanks Al!
Al Klappenberger
Neek, Don't worry about the impedance unless you make a really drastic change from the normal 2 - 5 setting. The tap connections for other squawker levels are in the file you downloaded. Al K.
Neek
Al- What's the best way to make a setting between the normal 5-2(6.2dB) and the 3-0 (7.9dB) setting? Thanks, Nick
Al Klappenberger
Neek, The setting would be 4 - X, but you will have to do some soldering on netwroks I build becasue I don't put a plug wire on tap #4. It's ok to do that though. Al K.
Neek
Al- 5-2 setting.............too hard 3-0 setting.............too soft 4-X setting................ahhhh just right! I stayed with a 10ohm resistor, is there a better match? -Neek
Al Klappenberger
Neek, The theoreticaly perfect resistor for the 4 - x setting would be 9.6 Ohms. That makes the 10 Ohm value quite ok.. Al K.
jannegard1
hallo i have built a copy of Al klappenbergers crossovers i can only said thanks Al for this good thing the sound is so much better in my k-horn
eglinski
Hi Al, The networks that I bought from you are GREAT well worth the cost and the wait, my K-horns have never sounded so "open" and detailed in the highs IMO. they do not add brightness like I read from a post at Audio Asylum. My qestion is about the squaker tap settings, is there a setting thatis between 3-0 and3-x something like 9.5 or 10 db of attenuation? Ive seen references to other settings being used by people on this BB that are not listed on the instruction sheet. Id rather not change the resister if possible Thanks Al Ed Glinski
Al Klappenberger
Ed, Yes, there are actually many setting that I did not include in the instructions. This is because I seem to have underestimated the need for intermediate steps. I assumed they would be too fine to hear. Between 3-x and 3-0 there are two intermediate settings: setting ratio 3-x .320:1 2-0 .355:1 4-1 .460:1 3-0 .500:1 I did not provide a plug wire on tap 4, so you might try the 2-0 setting first. If that's not right, you will have to do some soldering to move one of the wires to tap 4 which is the tap just above "X" on the back of the transformer. The theoretical resistor value for these would be about 8 Ohms, but the 10 Ohm resistor is quite close enough. The purest might connect an additional 47 Ohm 2W resistor right across the 10 Ohm. That will bring the combination down to 8.25 Ohms. Al K
