farewell klipsch, it was one hell of a ride......

i just discovered a couple of days ago that my month old Promedia 4.1 is defective. This is my fourth set guys, and sadly that's where i draw the line. Enough is enough, sorry Klipsch it was one hell of a ride.

here's my letter to Allan Feldstein, Klipsch representative for Canada.

Allan,

I appreciate your quick response and obligatory apology statement

but I am

afraid it is far too late to make amends.

On June 27, 2001 I purchased a Klipsch 4.1 Promedia system from

Kromer

Radio (420 Bathurst St. Toronto, ON M5T 2S6). I read the instruction booklet

and promptly installed the system on my computer. After three hours of use,

the subwoofer overheated. Confused and frustrated I contacted Kromer Radio

and they suggested I bring the product back to their store. After a one and

a half hour trek downtown with roughly forty pounds of equipment, Kromer

Radio diligently replaced my defective system. The next day after one hour

of use, the brand new Klipsch 4.1 Promedia system again overheated. I

dreaded the three hour travel time to Kromer Radio but I still pursued.

Third time's a charm? For a mere couple of months that is. The third time

the subwoofer overheated I e-mailed Klipsch and Sharon Sauls assured me that

the unit I will be receiving is tested prior to shipment. I received my

fourth set on October 1, 2001. On November 2, 2001 I noticed high frequency

ringing noise emitting from the front left satellite of the 4.1 system that

wasn't there before. Yesterday I also noticed that the rear left satellite

was producing the same extremely irritating noise. I checked all the

connections and they were fine. Yet another defective Promedia 4.1 system

has graced my home.

Allan, I have clearly stated my resolve from my previous letter, I

do not

want another Klipsch 4.1 Promedia set delivered to me. Klipsch's

responsibility of ensuring that they manufacture non-defective, high quality

Promedia 4.1's has failed repeatedly. My mounting frustration and bitterness

will not be quelled with the fifth phantom promise of a flawless set. My

concerns and complaints have been passed around from Kromer Radio, Amy,

Sharon, yourself, and now you are suggesting I go around the wreath and take

it back to Kromer Radio again. It is not my responsibility to negotiate with

Kromer Radio for a refund. Klipsch is the guilty party, it is not the

retailer nor myself who is at fault. It is insulting and it infuriates me

that you even suggest I go through the ordeal of having to lug around forty

pounds of equipment downtown for the third time. Do not treat me like one of

your speaker systems, I am not a 'thing' to be passed around. I have my own

responsibilities and duties as a university student, I have better things to

do than spending three hours in the subway

It is not of my personal nature to flare up and express my disdain

like this but this particular situation gives me compelling reason to do so.

Allan if I didn't state it clearly enough, I do not want another 4.1

Promedia set sent to me nor negotiate and barter with Kromer Radio. Either

give me the amount of money I initially paid for my 4.1 set ($475 Canadian +

15% tax) or provide me with a product, other than the Promedia 4.1 that I

could use with my PC, of equal or greater value that will satisfy the audio

enthusiast inside of me.

I believe this is a fair ultimatum. I have gone through enough

distress and hassle to put up with another redundant solution that has not

delivered. I want to put an end to this as soon as possible. I only seek

resolution to this long running ordeal.

and here's his reply,

I'm very sorry that you've decided to pursue the refund. However, I

understand your frustration, and wish i could do more for you.

We have contacted Mark Stokes, Manager of Kromer Radio, on your behalf. He

has agreed to give you the refund you've requested.

Kindly get in touch with Mr. Stokes, and he'll take care of it for you;

Again, I apologize for the problems you've endured on the Pro Media 4.1

systems;

Sincerely,

Allan R. Feldstein

i think i've tolerated enough, thanks anyway Klipsch for the excellent customer support and the good times i've had with my four promedia sets. Good bye

FOUR SETS!

I think it very clear,QC is not doing its job or the methods of testing are very light(to make sure the mosts sets pass the tests and are shipped).

I can understand your frustration,I had 3 defective AltecLansing ATP5 speaker sets! After the third one died on me (same problem)and I heard horror stories from many ATP5 users I decided it was tome to get my money back.

When three sets fail there is simply no excuses. The rule should be its three and YOU ARE OUT.

Sad,Klipsch is a good company. The US made products and even subs with BASH amps(KSW15)work well. Its the non US made PM that fail, nad fail often. One store sold over a dozen PM and almost a third failed! This is a joke.

Its not only a Klipsch problem since I experienced first hand some Altecs that died over and over.

QC should be real, not just there in the shape of a QC pass sticker.

where are these promedia's manufactured?

the sad thing is the last two sets that i received were supposedly 'tested' and burned in to ensure that they weren't defective sets. They're the best sounding speakers that ever graced my home but they're also the most unreliable.

if Klipsch could only get their act straight with these Promedia's they wouldn't have so many customers like me who are frustrated beyond belief. It's hard to comprehend that this is rare problem since if you look around the forums, i'm not the only one who has returned multiple promedia's.

BVader, what was wrong with your 5.1 set??? son of a gun, i can't believe even their newest line of promedias have defective sets roaming around. When did you buy it? Since i'll be returning my 4.1's next week i'm hard pressed to find another set of speakers that will match its quality. If Klipsch pulls their act together with their 5.1 promedia line, I might give it a go. But i'm still reluctant, especially with what i went through and also with the number of complaints in this forum about the 5.1's.

Vatican3,

If you are looking at worthy speakers to replace your defective ProMedias then its quite easy.

VideoLogic Crossfire(4.1 speakers,better sound quality,Audax drivers,outboard Class AB amplifier)

VideoLogic DTS (5.1,and even decodes DTS!,high quality Audax drivers, best 5.1 PC speakers)

You cant go wrong,I have the Sirocco PRO,had the DTS and Crossfire and none gave me even ONE problem. They are more musical then the PM line. And power,ha,if you want power they have it.

Check them out

I got them from the States,I think if you e-mail VideoLogic they will tell you where you can order their speakers in Canada.

If you want a 4.1 system then the Crossfire is the way to go,for a 5.1(with decoder)the DTS and for the absolute best PC speakers system the SiroccoPro is the champ. The SiroccoPro is a 2.1 system,o it not for all.

Prices around $850 for the 5.1 DTS,$600 for the 4.1 Crossfire and $1300 for the SiroccoPro(IN CANADIAN DOLLARS).May be lower now

SH!T, those prices are quite high,

i found a store in kingston that sells the Digitheatre DTS for $950 canadian. If i get this set, will it be a world of difference from the promedia 4.1's that i had. I kind of reluctant to just bit the bullet and buy the DTS system cause it costs TWICE as much as the promedia 4.1's.

Vatican in my opinion you were way to nice about the whole mess. You got screwed big time buddy!

How many hours on the subway carrying 40lbs of speakers to kromers did you have invested from the day you bought your speakers to the day you finally got your refund?

How many hours of unhooking your system, boxing it up and then unboxing and rehooking up the new defective system?

How mad did you get throughout the entire promedia ownership time?

How many extra grey hairs did you get?

They should have fully refunded your money AND sent you any klipsch item you wanted under $475 (the original purchase price) for your troubles.

What you tolerated is beyond comprehension. Your level of emotional control and physical restraint is admirable!

BigBusa, if y ou read the latter part of my letter i was pretty much hinting on what you were suggesting. But to blatantly make demands like that from Klipsch, even with the Sh!t i went through, would be tactless IMHO. I'm content with getting my money back.

I decided to leave the PC speaker scene and move on to bigger and better things, home theatre PC. Stil overwhelmed wih choices on what components i'll get but it has been fun so far. I've learned a lot of things and it seems that finding a good combination for a HT system is 10 times harder than what i went through when i built my computer last summer.

Vatican They wouldn't give you anything above and beyond the original price unless you went to the highest mountain and screamed it for days. Hinting toward that in a letter that only the recipient will see isn't nearly enough to make them act.
