christjared
Hello there, its been awhile since i have posted. I was thinking of an update for my current setup, which doesnt consist of much. I have had my HK 130 running my KG4's or awhile now in my dorm room, but i think it might be time to update receivers. I was wondering if there were any good recomendations out there for a new receiver for these old, but good speakers. I really dont want to go into tubes right now because im still at college and my setup is used for AV as well as listening to music. I listen to alot of everything, from rock, alternative, punk, classic rock, r&b, hip hop, country basically everything that a college student would listen to. Also there is the road block in my way, that being cost. I really dont want to spend alot, but at the same time i want something that would out perform my HK. Any ideas here would be greatly appreceated! Thanks!!!
darkside
I am assuming that the HK 130 is stereo...If so, you might want to look into an HK3380, or the HK3480 if the KG4s can handle the power. I have the 3380 and they work extremely well on my RF-15s, but I'm not sure how they would work on an older speaker such as yours...Just a thought. BTW, I picked mine up (its a factory refurb) off ebay for $
christjared
The HK 130 is a 5.1 receiver, even thougth i dont use the center, surround channels on the receiver, but i bought it thinking i was going to move into the world of surround. The KG4's can handle 100 watts rms, can you over power the KG4's without having huge problems?
darkside
It depends on how much you want to crank them. I've read where overpowing speakers by a little is ok, that way you have a slim chance off clipping the signal and really destroying your speakers....I dunno. Check the harman/kardon website, but at the same time there may be other receivers that work with Klipschs. I've heard of them to be very particular, I just happened to get lucky with my setup
Daddy Dee
christjared, good to see you posting. Hope you're having a good year in school. As far as receivers, the Panasonic (digital) receivers have certainly got my curiosity going. A couple of forum members have them and say they are the best thing since sliced bread. I haven't heard these, but have done some listening to digital amps of the same technology. They are impressive indeed. Some folks have got these and don't do tubes at all and don't think they are missing anything. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/813982.aspx Here's one that Bob Crites just got... Panasonic SA-XR55 Looks like a good candidate to me.
Arky
Underpowering your speakers is a greater concern than overpowering.
Arky
You do not want a receiver/amp to run out of power & clip.
christjared
Thanks Daddy Dee! I really dont know about going into that whole digital world right at this minute, but it would work for the AV setup better than an older reveiver. I dont know, i will check it out and see what i find!
