Justensen
I'm planning on upgrading my center channel soon. Can any one tell me how well the new RC-62 or RC-64 would sound with my RF7 front speakers? Would I run into a problem with them not being timbre matched? Also, does the RC-64 sound so much better than the RC-62 that it's worth the huge difference(double) in price? I appreciate any help or advice that's offered. -Tony
colterphoto1
I havent' directly compared them, but the 64 has 1.25 titanium driver, 62 has 1", and the RC7 has a 1.75" voice coil! Add to that that your RF7's have 10" woofers, and the 60-series only 6.5", I think the RC7 with 8" is much closer in design. Ideally, you should pick up an RC7, otherwise, you're at the top of your class, don't shortchange yourself when it comes to the all-critical center channel. Get the RC64 if you can't find a RC7 in a reasonable time. Welcome to the Madness! Michael
Justensen
Thanks for the reply. I would really like to buy the RC-64 being the new flagship model. However, like you mentioned, it probably won't match up as well as the RC7 would. My plan now is to see if any one else has had any experience with this setup before I take the plunge. If not, then I'll most likely buy the RC-64 and find out the hard way. If the RF7's and RC-64 don't sound great together, I can probably find some one willing to trade me center channels. DrWho
Or if you find the timbre doesn't match, then you could always upgrade to RF-83's and delegate the RF-7's to surround duty [] welcome to the forum

Catharsis147
LOL. Dr. Who, are you trying to get our friend injured???
DrWho
lol - I was actually being serious... [] A pair of floorstanders really doesn't take up much more usable floorspace than a pair of bookshelves on stands. Granted it takes up more space than a pair of surrounds on the wall, but I suppose you could always try flying the RF-7's too....on their side and up high it shouldn't be too visually obtrusive [] I guess it's good to be young - the woman I marry is gonna need to understand that she's marrying the speakers too (and I've already got plenty of big ones) [H] Seems the trick is not scaring them off for long enough - which I think means never letting them come over to visit []
