xdetroitx
As an electrician I have probably wired and finished a 1000 homes in reno nv and every single one gets knockdown from the floor up in every room. It hasnt quite caught on here in the midwest but its all over the southwest.
gonzp
Damon, Our 11 year old house has got the same texture on the walls and ceiling. We have never had a problem with dust, dirt or crayons and, yes lighting does really bring out the texture. I would use a semi gloss paint though. (Wipe ups are much easier)
damonrpayne
We used a flat, oh well. I have enough of the paint left to touch up for years!
atleer
Well, down here in Houston, we call that texture style "Monterrey Drag". In one of the products I build, this is standard on all walls and ceilings. This is done for our more expensive homes. It is an excellent texture for hiding imperfections, and usually does match well for future patch work. You can adjust this style to your liking. You are essentially spraying on a much heavier layer of texture than you would with an "orange peel" finish, and then dragging across the texture. If you spray a little lighter texture than the extremely heavy one shown, you can end up with an excellent finish. As far as paint choices go, flat is definitely the way to go. You want to aviod any sheen on your walls to minimize on room glares, etc. In you nice media room, hopefully your kids woulnd't be running around unsupervised, thus minimizing hand prints, etc. Flat is also really easy to touch up. Fish
One of my confederates got some kind of texture hopper apparatus to go on his air compressor or whatever. Here is an example of the type of finish this does: I'm thinking I should go ahead and do this, it will look cool and hide any imperfections better than sand texture. I do all the homes I built in this style of texture,no charge,it just looks so nice. There is no downside, dust, kids etc....This will look better longer and hold up better than smooth by far,and with proper accent lighting is really cool, everyone loves it I've built for(cept 1 or 2 old school). It's easy to do with the a little knowledge and tools,I use an12- 18" aluminum paint shield(the one that looks like a blind) to knockdown(I like consistancy without lines). It cost me a days work and about 7 buckets of mud extra per house and is well worth it.Only my opinion though.
