Allan Songer
Which is better? John Townsend, Newport Rhode Island, circa 1770: Florence Knoll, New York, NY circa 1958:

Allan Songer
You might well argue that, Mark! But even though you and your ilk might enjoy the fine crafstmaship and exquisite sense of proportion and detail that we find in Townsend's work, can you really argue that the Florence Knoll desk, due to it's sheer size is far better as a work surface (which is the inteded USE for these things!), that there really can be NO substitute for sheer VOLUME? coda
classic modern aesthetics versus museum quality Rhode Island design. which is better. . new versus old. both seem . . timeless. I'm stumped. while I'm deciding, has anyone seen an iBar? http://www.i-bar.ch/video
Allan Songer
Allan--- Actually, I like modern design, and I am no collector of antiquities. But----but----I don't see much in the Knoll table that speaks to me other than the vast space. Besides, I need a few cubby holes to park my stamps and staples. iPOD versus the Victrola? md The Florence Knoll has flush mount full entension drawers on both sides (in the manner of the classic "partner's desks". Plenty of room for your crap.
