chitown2477
I have the HD-DVD player attachment for the Xbox 360. When I play HD-DVD's it seems as though the sound is not a strong as when I play regular DVD's on my upscaling DVD player. For example, I can put the sound level at 28-30 when I play regular DVD's on my upscaling DVD player. However, it must be as low as 20 for HD-DVD's n the HD-DVD player attachment. I know we are talking about completely different equipment but I swear the HD-DVD sound is just not as strong. It sounds good, just at a higher level on my receiver. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Also, do you need a special receiver to de-code Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround tracks? damonrpayne
I believe you do need that codec to be supported by the reciever, and the new sound formats are only passed via HDMI as far as I know.
Blazemaster
I don't have the Xbox360, but the Toshiba HDA1 and have noticed the same thing. I read on the other forums that you need to increase the subwoofer volume close to additional 10db to get it closer to DVD volume levels. wuzzzer
Is it possible that HD-DVD has a wider dynamic range so that the difference between the quietest and loudest parts of the movie are much broader than with standard DVD? That might explain why you have to turn up the volume a bit.
