Fizzlemizzle
I'm looking to get new speakers for my car as a couple of the ones I have now are blown. The car is a 1997Ford Taurus LX and the speakers in the car are 6"x 8"x3". I'm looking for suggestions on some good speakers that are around 100 dollars or less per pair. thanks. Fizzlemizzle
I sent one of the representitives at crutchfield an e-mail because I didn't know if I would be able to install a cd deck in my car. These taurus' have a weird console with all the radio and heating controls. It turns out I won't be able to get a cd deck for my car but they did say I could install a cd changer. I'm not sure if i'd even want to do that because i'm not sure how great the radio even is. thanks for the advice though, crutchfield was very helpful. efzauner
You should be happy with something like an infinty reference 5x7 or a polk DB 5x7 BTW 6x8 and 5x7 are the same size You should be able to find these at many discount on line resellers as well as ebay . The stok head unit should have enough power for these and you would be surprized what adding better speakers can do and BTW, yes you can get adaptors that change the whole oval dash unit so that you can add an aftermarket radio. here it is http://cgi.ebay.ca/96-99-Ford-Taurus-Mercury-Sable-Car-Radio-Dash-install_W0QQitemZ320062374547QQihZ011QQcategoryZ85806QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem. if you do change the radio, you will need a wiring harness to adapt the aftermarket radio wires to the oem plug in the car.. about $10. look at speakers something like this http://cgi.ebay.ca/PIONEER-6-X-8-2-WAY-260W-SPEAKERS-TSD681R_W0QQitemZ150071230554QQihZ005QQcategoryZ14940QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-Polk-EX368-Coaxial-6-x8-Pair-EX-Series-NIB_W0QQitemZ180012640374QQihZ008QQcategoryZ14940QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.ca/Polk-Audio-DB570-Coaxial-Speakers-5x7-NEW_W0QQitemZ320062359716QQihZ011QQcategoryZ14940QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.ca/INFINITY-6812cf-CAR-AUDIO-REFERENCE-6X8-5X7-SPEAKERS_W0QQitemZ140054682125QQihZ004QQcategoryZ14940QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem any of the above would be fine. anything bigger ( as in higher end speaker with a bigger magnet) and you may have trouble installing them. Klipsched with Yamahas
When people ask this question, I always say go listen to various coaxials. Generally speaking, you can get a pretty good idea from car audio sound displays. In that price range, maybe Alpine, Pioneer, or Infinity's. No offense, but in that range, don't expect top quality, but they'll do the trick. Power handling capabilities are generally not that high, but if you are just pushing them w/OEM HU, you'll be OK. Watch your ohmage on what you select. Personally, I would check the FORD or TAURUS forums "car audio section".
Fizzlemizzle
Thanks for all the helpful advice everyone, the problem is that kit won't work on my car. I have the lx model with the mach audio system and the temperature sensing controls, it does not have the dials and that will not work. I didn't really expect to get top quality speakers in that price range but I expected pretty good quality . I have no seen many speakers go for a price above my range but I am sure some do. I have heard that JL? audio makes some quality speakers. Alpine seems to be a popular brand for car audio but I am not sure what to expect of their quality. Keep the advice coming, I appreciate it
