KG 5.5's for a Small Room

Hi,

I have a small room. about 9'x14' and will be listening to mostly

jazz at all volumes, soft to loud. Do the KG 5.5's make sense for

this environment (other than the fact that they will take up a lot of

space)?

Thanks,

Dan

I bought 5.5s recently for a friend (and

boxed them and drove them across the country) so I am very familiar

with their size and sound. First, they are "deep" (size-wise)

relative to many other speakers which are often wider than deep.

However, consider that smaller speakers on stands will occupy about the

same floor space/room volume as the big 5.5s. The only way you would

save space with smaller speakers is if they were on shelves or in a

bookcase or something like that, which might not be the optimal

position sound-wise. I was highly impressed with their sound. They were

originally $1000/pr speakers, so if you can fit them in, very

definitely go for 'em.

In 2003 my kid brother bought a pair of nice KG 5.5s for his system, first in his 12 x 13 bedroom, then in the much larger family room to go through his HT setup. In either installation, the deeper-than-wide towers sang true. I even tried them in my small music room with my 8 watt SET amp, and they performed surprisingly well! IMHO the KG 5.5 does make sense for your particular environment...go for it![Y]

Mister Z,

I have a pair of 5.5s, and I can tell they will
be great for jazz. Both Diana Krall and Mr. Frank Sinatra sound
awesome on these speakers! Your room should be large enough; the 5.5's footprint is about the size of a speaker stand base. There is a pair just like mine on e-bay right now:
