What are these good for?

These are Altec Lansing 309-4T coaxial speakers I think. What could two of these be used for and why all the colored wires.

They are like brand new and have some sort of square transformer ? hanging off one side.

70V line transformer, remove.

Thanks, two clips and a snip to remove that transformer. Maybe I'll hook them up to my in home stereo and see what they sound like, the curiosity continues.

duplex ceiling speakers for use in offices, distrubuted sound networks etc. That's why the transformer.

you can try them out at home by disconnecting the transformer and going directly to where the b&w wires tie to the basket.

i doubt if they are very hi-fidelity despite the Altec name.

Hey Michael,

I picked them up at work because they were going to the trash and I guess they are being used throughout the bldg. They do look just like car coaxial speakers.
