promedia amp overheats

I just bought these new on dec 21 2001 and they were great until this morning now the sub is so hot it will burn your hand and the sound is really poor and staticy. I had to unplug the sub for fear of a fire. What do I do? Take them back to where I bought them? Please help asap.
