muskiemike
I have these Heresy speakers. Running through a mid 90's HK, and an old school sherwood 200 watt amp. I use this set up only for analog audio. Is there a replacement 12 inch woofer for this model. They have like zero bass response?
HarryO
Welcome to the forum. You'll find little improvement changing woofs. Placement is critical. Keeping them close to the floor and corners help. Many use a sub with them and many use tube amplification to boost the bass. I personally have found tubes to "wake the bass" and corners help. I'm sure that as many pairs of Heresys as there are someone has come up with a magic cure for the bass on the Heresys. Harry

[:^)] O.K. now I am confused. I thought the Heritage line was the end all be all of Klipsch and now you tell me the Heresys need a magic cure! Hell my RF-5s produce nice base just about anywhere. HarryO
I'm not trying to start the debate between tube and solid state again but IMHO tubes are THE way to go with the Heritage line. I haven't used my Heresys in a while but when I do it is ONLY with tubes. It brings out the bass quite nicely and tones down the horns which I MYSELF find a bit overpowering in the Heresy. MY taste only ALL and don't get the panties in an uproar. I've found the tubes match extremely well with the Heresy. To me, the Heritage IS the only speaker line I like enough to keep. I like the Cornwall best. Everyone has their personal preference. I build my systems around my speakers. After all, they are about the most critical part of the system. It all has to work together as a unit. Some pieces just don't match up well. No matter what brand it is. Harry
mark1101
Synergy between components helps a lot. If you are using a thin sounding amp/receiver, then you'll perceive the heresys to be base shy. Find an amp/receiver that is heavy on the bass side. My Denon makes a ton of bass, but I had a Yamaha that did not.

I use this set up only for analog audio. Is there a replacement 12 inch woofer for this model. They have like zero bass response? There is NO replacement woofer that will give more, or , especially deeper bass. You need a subwoofer for that. Set the crossover to about 100 Hz. That said, those look like 1979 models. If they are, try this as an experiment. The squawker is run at 98 db, the tweeter at 99 dB and the woofer runs 94 to 95 dB. This mod drops the tweeter and squawker 3 dB and makes it sound a lot like a La Scala. It is also flatter. The change is pretty easy to reverse if you don't like it. The impedance above 700 Hz is worse than crazy (stock is crazy high, >110 ohms) and it will affect the frequency response of a lot of tube amps. If you like it the nest post is the better permanent design. I run the permanent design in most of my Heresies.
JohnA
Here is the permanent design. It will present a nearly flat 11ohm impedance all across the audio band. That should be very goodfor the performance of your tube amp. Be sure the 11 ohmresistor, or resistors has a total power rating of 20 watts or more andthat it does not touch anything when you're done. It will get hotat high power. Ifyour caps are still the original oil-filled motor start caps, replacethem. They are old and do not perform well at theiur age. Ifavor Hovlands but also use the cheaper Solen metalized filmcaps. A large wire air-core woofer inductor will reduceresistance and stabilize the crossover frequency at high power, too. It will raise the output of the woofer a fraction of adB.
