masterxela
I'm looking at buying an inexpensive 31 band for my sub channel and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I'm looking at the behringer dsp1124p and the fbq3102. Might have the budget for the deq2496, but what am I getting for the extra $200? http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHDSP1124P http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHFBQ3102 http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHDEQ2496 or the mono bassis unit for $400....... Frzninvt
Why in the world would you need 31 bands for a subwoofer? All you need is an Eq that is 1/3 octave from 500Hz and down. You should look into an Audio Control Richter Scale, I think it would be more than sufficient and it is designed specifically for subwoofers. Here is what it looks like: http://cgi.ebay.com/Richter-Scale-Series-Three-Equilizer-Analyzer_W0QQitemZ270156695706QQihZ017QQcategoryZ3271QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Read about its capabilities here: http://www.smr-home-theatre.org/Reviews/Audiocontrol_1/Richter.html
Trooper
Actually a parametric EQ would be better for subwoofer use. It allows you to vary the frequency and Q (width) as well as cut/boost. A fixed graphic EQ only lets you cut or boost. 3-5 bands of parametric EQ should do the job.
DrWho
What are you going to use the EQ for? Or to put it another way, what is the problem you hope to solve with the EQ? Ultimately the task is going to determine which tool you should use.
michael hurd
I have the DCX 2496, and have just been playing with the menus on it, it is fantastic for the price, and can do pretty much anything you ever want to do in terms of parametric eq, but does not go below 20 hz, in terms of filters available. masterxela
Try to fix the pretty severe rolloff. I knew it would be an issue with the higher fs and sealed design.
DrWho
Could we get specs on your sub design? I have always felt that EQ should be a part of every sub design, but there are certain things to take into consideration. EQ does not fix all problems and the right filter needs to be used in order to avoid destroying the phase response.
masterxela
http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=51 (parameters on the left side are the 8ohm) 2 enclosures, each with 2 18's. 15ish cubic feet sealed with 10lbs polyfill each. running off a crown xti2000 another note- I'm starting to design a ht for my basement, and was wondering if it is better to have open space infront of the ht (behind the screen), or behind the seating. My basement has a pole dead center, so I'll have the screen up against it, and half my basement behind the screen, or the screen on a wall and my seating up against the pole
DrWho
You do realize the Crown XTi's have an entire DSP stage built in right? In other words, you've already got all the EQ power you need. If you post the models we could tell you what kinds of filters you might need to use.
masterxela
I thought it did, but sitting in front of it with the manual, II don't really understand it. Talking about eq in or out, and no talk about boosting frequencies etc. What model? crown xti 2000, 8 0hm mj-
