Problems with PowerDVD 4.0...

"Where do I put the win98 files I took off the disk? (Before I install)"

So...here's the idea once again...

The deltree.exe usage is off course ONLY for deleting your program files (progra~1) directory and windows directory. So your other files/directory are not deleted. They're safe and sound as long as you don't deltree them. Off course you're gonna need to re-install all of your applications such as MS Office, Coreldraw, etc again.

You can copy your win98 master or installation file into your harddrive anywhere, for example---> c:\install\win98

so you can install a fresh windows from MS DOS mode:

c:\install\win98\setup.exe

Hope this will help those who wants to re-install new OS without formatting their harddrive.

Good luck!

I don't know if I would ever wish my Sony Vaio on BigBusa! LOL! Total waste of like $1799. More problems than praise. things that had problems...

dvd driver

onboard sound card

cdrw drive

hard drive

NIC

modem

mouse

drivers

usb ports

firewire (IEEE) ports

then there was the software problems...

random deletion of stuff

random shutdowns, no heat involved

would not shut down all the way

would not start up

and the list goes on and on...

ask Slaz13, he has been the person i yell at about my computer LoL!

Sorry to bring this long thread back but i may have isolated the problem more.It seems that it only freezes with DTS movies.I've heard of a DTS 1228 patch that stops the freezing, where can i find it?I've looked but the website that did have it the link didn't work, lol!

I noticed that the movie froze when i put in the Fast And The Furious,it has DTS and even the menu froze! It does it when i click on Dolby 5.1 too but only on DVD's equipped with a DTS choice. So anyone find the patch?

Well the patch was a joke!It just got rid of DTS audio all together!!!So i uninstalled and reinstalled PowerDVD again. So i have DTS again but i noticed that i can run the two DVD's i just bought fine but my old stuff just freezez!!!(Fast and the Furious and Office Space)I got through both at least once without freezing. But i have had them freeze too.But movies like jurrasic park and the matrix etc... just run like total crap!(Freeze)I've decided that my system is a peice of Sh*T and should be burned!Im debating with myself to format but it just seems like a stupid idea, why should i even have too!?My computer runs everyother program fine, why is powerDVD any different?I guess i can live another year with this because by then i'll be getting myself a Dell 8100 series.(Or is it 8200?)Well im just ranting and rambling now...cwm45.gifcwm45.gifcwm45.gif

Check the properties in device manager to look for video and sound card using the same IRQ's.

Some video cards insist on using a certain IRQ or DMA channel, as my Visiontek GF2, that wants IRQ 11.

I reassigned the resources of my scsi and onboard sound to leave IRQ 11 open to be assigned to my videocard.

I owned PowerDVD4 XP and DTS decoding work flawlessly.

Try to check your system information for IRQ sharing.

Maybe your sound card do the weird freeze stuff. Or maybe you can switch your soundcard to another PCI port.

Anyway, reinstalling a new windows also seems good.

(As I said above, you don't have to reformat your HD for reinstalling windows)

Oh...don't forget to un-check the DMA option in PowerDVD.

Good Luck!

I thought you were supposed to keep DMA on?

i just put it on my win98 and my win2000 systems, no problems... was this done on the same machine? or were you using one win98 machine and one win2000 machine? could be a hardware conflict there, try disabling some things like DMA and such.
