flatgrass
Am getting ready to open up and clean a receiver. Didn't know that DeoxIT came in 5% and 100% solution strengths. What would be recommended for general purpose contact cleaning? Would it make any difference? (more rubbing/scrubbing?) Also, would aerosol or the small liquid drip pens make any difference. Thanks in advance. kevin

Groomlakearea51
You really should also have a "drip pen" or a small syringe for the deoxit and fader lube for the switches and pots. Some of the volume pots are partially sealed or the contact areas are not accessible to spray, so the syringe or "dripper" allows a small amount to be used while moving the pots and switches back and forth to clean them. You should be careful as many amps/ receivers have carbon contacts instead of silver, and too much cleaner/ deoxit can damage those devices. Thus as MAS indicated, 5% is a better choice for basic deoxidation and contact cleaning. You can also use a can of general PCB/contact "rinse" to generally clean off the circuit boards and rinse away the "grody" stuff if necessary, then go to work with the deoxit and fader lube for the switches (which are the worst offenders in some amps). Hope that is also of some assistance.
