Mallette
First, I really didn't look much beyond the program pieces to the point I did not realize this was just piano and trumpet. Most of this material, IMHO, has no business on piano. Gabrieli isn't piano music no matter how well arranged. However, that doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable. The high resolution here certainly provides that "closer to LP than CD" since of pure realism. No quibbles there. But I find myself sitting in the back of an empty hall wanting to get up and move closer to the performers. The piano is distant with no percussive quality and the trumpet sounds almost muted. I get the sense these are omnidirectional mikes placed well back beyond where my ears want to be. Too much space, too little presence. If you want this material for background music at a nice dinner, it's a good choice. If you are wanting to experience 16th and 17th century music up close and personal, look elsewhere. jt1stcav
What were the Linn recording engineers thinking here? Scratch that CD off my short list...
