damonrpayne
I watched part of "Sunshine" in DTSHDMA and all of "Predator" with dts-hd last night. Very very nice. Better than the 1.5mb/s "core" audio stream for sure!
zedzed
Just to confirm - if I have a PS3 I do not need a receiver with TrueHD or DTS-HD decoding? I can save money and get a unit from last year/generation as long as it has HDMI audio in?
Jordan
That is correct, as long as it has HDMI inputs. An example I can think of would be the Denon AVR-888.
zedzed
Jordan - thanks for the input. Do you think this receiver would do the job for the PS3? http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/productdetail.html?CNTID=552121&CTID=5000400 I don't see LPCM listed on the specs but I thought most receivers did LPCM these days
jeffdbodean
I have the ps3, and I use it hooked to my Marantz sr8002 and I have to send the signal from the ps3 in bitstream and let my reciever due the decoding, or you can send it in pcm and then the ps3 does the decoding, at leat thats the way the people at ps3 support explains it and thats how it does actually seem to be.Just my observations thoe, I am by no means an expert or anything. You cannot send DD+, TrueHD, or DTS-HD-MA via bitstream to your receiver for it to decode using PS3. The HDMI chip in the PS3 is not capable of it. To get the advanced audio you have to send it as PCM.
