nhman
I posted this question on another forum I visit and some suggested this group may be a much better resource.... It has been a long time since I followed this hobby too closely. I am looking to replace my current B&K mono amps and PS Audio pre (having problems with this and PS Audio tells me it is too old to repair) with an integrated amp. My two sources are a Sony DVP S9000es and a Music Hall mmf-5 turntable. I listen about equally to vinyl, CD and SACD. We have a 20+ year old pair of Klipsch Forte speakers which my wife loves and are not going any place. My listening is classical, blues, gospel and rock. My wife loves her music loud and with a lot of power. Any advice on where to start would be appreciated. We have no boutique audio stores within a 1 1/2 hour drive. My budget is under $2000. frankphess
Why switch to an integrated? Why not just purchase a new pre and keep the B&K's in place. Maybe try a nice tube pre with those solid state amps. Keeping the monos will keep the power the wife desires, and staying with seperarates will provide you with "better" sound than an integrated (I would think). If you really want to switch to an integrated you can search Audiogon.com for used equipment.
joshnich
Havent heard this but it was referenced in a recent thread. Looks to be pretty nice unit. http://www.stereophile.com/integratedamps/306outlaw/ I would consider however the prvious recco - get a tube preamp and continue to use the B&Ks. Look at the pre amps offered by Mark Deneen at Juicy Music. Search the site and you'll find lots of good info on his equipment. Check it out here. http://www.juicymusicaudio.com/ Josh
wuzzzer
I've found that a pre-amp makes a much bigger difference than an amp, as long as both are of decent quality. I would imagine your B&K amps are of very nice build quality. If you for sure want a nice integrated amp, I would recommend Rotel or Cambridge Audio.
