InVeNtOr
well i would love to use the hdmi spot but i only have 1 on the dvr. if i hook that up to the receiver then i have to always power everything up to watch tv. so i am running the hdmi to the tv so i can keep my nice, clean, good looking picture for 99% of the tv i watch. then i am going to run either the optical or coax from the dvr to the receiver so in the small occurance i can turn on the gear and listen to the cowboys through my sound system. see, i can have my cake and eat it too! InVeNtOr
i settled this debat today....i hooked up the coax and it didn't work. couldn't get it to work no matter how hard i tried. i unpluged it, pluged in the optical, and Bam, it worked! so for me the optical was the best choice.....lol
Moderators Youthman Posted November 20, 2008 Moderators Share Posted November 20, 2008 i hooked up the coax and it didn't work. On both my yamaha and my onkyo, I have to tell the receiver which I am using. Sometimes you have to tell the player the same thing.
InVeNtOr
come on now....you think i am that much of a noob? i did that every which way i could. i even swapped inputs just to make sure. it may have been a setting on the dvr that i don't have access to. all i care about now, is that it actually works. Moderators Youthman Posted November 20, 2008 Moderators Share Posted November 20, 2008 come on now....you think i am that much of a noob? Nope, just trying to offer some suggestions. There is no reason a coax should not work but both the receiver and the sender have to be on the same page. Probably just a simple setting that you overlooked. But like you said, it is working and I really do not think you will hear any difference between the two. I have read before that some people experience more bass with a digital coax than a toslink but I dunno.
InVeNtOr
don't take that as i was mad, i was laughing....should have put the lol. no i did check everything i could, had the manual and everything. i think it's the dvr. tring to call at&t is a nightmare so i didn't bother. i won't notice the bass because it's just regular tv, i dought they have much of a bass signal... Moderators Youthman Posted November 21, 2008 Moderators Share Posted November 21, 2008 don't take that as i was mad, i was laughing Not at all. I do not have a DVR so I'm not familiar with the settings on it. You will be fine with the toslink. Enjoy!
