  1. I say BD wins, some here will disagree with me. The software sales are now 85% in Blu-Ray's favor.
  2. http://www.klipschcorner.com/BlogDetail.aspx?guid=426acf85-30ac-4daf-bec6-90c91c6b0faf Third picture down shows grilles over the woofers. I think they look stunning without the grills. The grill will be held on by magnets.
  3. Disclaimer: this is my educated opinion, not Klipsch's. Listen to the Palladium podcast where Jim Garret notes that one thing they're looking for in a Palladium dealer is having high end electronics around. I feel this goes more towards the image of the product than an official Klipsch endorsement of McIntosh. The Palladium is a high end product and you should have high end electronics with it, if you will. I consider it in the same realm as Andy W's post about binding posts on the reference series: the science shows bi-wiring is boolshit, but people expect it so they include it.
  4. Yeah, I think they are going for a glamorous look, perhaps not the best listening room. There's some, uh, very aesthetically pleasing "palladium fan pictures" I'll try to get ahold of as well.

  6. Mid-range is what Klipsch (especially Heritage and Palladium) does best, so that's a complaint I've not heard before. Room acoustics are complex. Distance from side walls matter as well.
  7. My understanding is that they will. People wouldn't like to have systems that are not matched.
  8. The "merlot" finish is my favorite as well.
  9. Yeah, not trying to start a flame war, I just thought it was impressive how they matched the tone of the actors in the movie, lenght of the dialog, to recent events etc. I've got that movie in my Netflix queue, might have to move it up a bit.
  10. Your distance from the rear wall will change how the speakers sound a bit. Reflections from the rear wall combine with direct sound from the horns/woofers. By changing the distance from the rear wall you are changing which frequencies are having which effects when combined with the direct sound. Experiment with what sounds good, or do acoustic measurements, to find out where you should put them in your room.
  11. My personal opinion after hearing is that they surpass nearly everything in nearly everything.

  13. Ok, you may not agree with my Format War stance, but I thought this was funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=friS4OOcdgQ
  14. I am planning on bringing recording gear this year. I'm coming up short on ideas though. We often cannot talk about the things we see in the labs, so that's out as a topic. I think I would like to do two: 1) Podcast at the mixer. Basically just everyone giving a "shout out", saying who they are etc. This one might be better as a Screencast, since I plan on bringing a very large amount of home brew... 2) Listening impressions: after the listening on Saturday, I might try to snag people to get some comments on the Palladium speakers. Anyone see any issues with this, or have better ideas?
  15. I saw this Saturday with the wife and friends. Loved it. Musicals are a guilty pleasure, and I love Johnny Depp, so I was pre-disposed to like this movie I suppose. Johnny Depp can sing much better than I was expecting, even if there was a bit of Captain Jack Sparrow in his voice at times. Bloody as hell and bizarre in parts, this was a gret film.
  16. I havea 30ft BluJeans cable and no issues.

  18. I've never had a disc go bad. If I ever get into backups, I will get a very large media server with a mirroring Raid configuration, so if any one drive dies nothing is lost. I also think it possible that solid state storage (Flash memory, etc) could replace optical media in five years or so, so instead of a disc we may have collections of SD cards.
  19. Oh, come now Mas. Aren't you the big fan of saying how all these High-Def optical sales are a tiny drop in the bucket? -40,000-70,000 standalone BD players sold before October 2007 -Millions of PS3s that are firmware upgradeable -People (like me) who just want high def audio and sound. Of all the movies I own, I have watched "special features" on perhaps 3. PiP and turning optical discs into video games are not astoundingly popular features. I assume your adivce on external storage and internet in a receiver has nothing to do with packaged optical media? Perhaps one of the future KlipschCorner podcasts should be me in a Blu-Ray debate with mas? It's one of my favorite topics!
  20. Ah, I read the spec sheet for the Furman. Do you sell these?
  21. 1. Yes. 2. I have to dig up the research to know. My room is probably a bit bigger than most, but I don't see why being a dedicated room or not is going to be a determining factor in the usefulness of the extra 2 speakers. 3. For me, I'm already spending way too much money on upgrades in 2008. Maybe in a couple of years.
  22. The vast majority of BD devices (PS3) are 1.1 profile, as is every one manufactured after October of last year.
  23. Going with seperates is good. The research out there suggests 7.1 is not a gimmick, but rather than 7.1 is the minimum configuration to produce realistic 360deg sound. I'll try to dig up the study.
