  1. Thought so, thanks Bob. Just like high definition "ready".
  2. Phil, I had to look at the pictures a couple of times myself on that one. I thought maybe a tweeter had been replaced at first. The alnico tweeters have a round back and one picture clearly shows it. Then I realized I was looking at the crossover network obscurred by the squawker on the other speaker. That's not the tweeter. You have to look close.
  3. Piranha, Oh well, in the heat of the bidding battle stranger things have happened. How many more pairs will you need anyhow?
  4. Tom, That's a clean looking unit. How did you get it so clean?
  5. I am wondering about the digital outputs on my HT system and PC soundcard. They show digital outputs going to speakers in the manual. Is this really a digital input to a speaker amp? Is there anything different about the speakers themselves or are they the same with on board DAC?" Thanks
  6. Ut Oh. I am from Syracuse and am very familiar with United Radio. They have repaired some of my gear before. They were a small repair business that has grown to be the Walmart of repair centers. If you have ever been there you would see they are authorized to repair almost every make of any type of electric gear you can think of. It's a big place with a lot of techs sitting at benchs, and it is expensive to get something fixed there. A few times, it was so expensive, I tossed the piece. They have a good reputation in general, or at least used to. I have lived in Georgia for the last 4 years. They have the capabilities to get it right, but I would bet that they don't get much practice on those Denon 4800s. It's all about which tech you get and how much familiarity he has with your unit. It sounds like you have a lemon to begin with, sorry. I had a Yamaha like that that they never got right. They continued to stand behind their work, but they never got it right. I hope you have better luck in the end. By the way, I have an older Denon unit with less features, but I do not have your problem. In fact over the years my AVR 1200 has been one of the very best receivers I have owned, and it continues to perform just fine. I like Denon.
  7. Good luck Smilin. Hang in there. I can't say enough about how great mine sound ('73s) with the Scott 299. Like a brand new pair. Those '67s look great and I bet they will sound fantastic. I hope you get 'em. There's another '73 pair up in Syracuse, N.Y. that are on the bay now, and are just 46 serial numbers away from my pair. They however, look to have had a custom veneer job. Whoever gets either pair is going to be happy.
  8. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3060947173&category=14993 Nice. Check 'em out. Look original.
  9. It looks like someone just listed a nice pair of 1973 KHorns on the bay. Buy both and relive 1973. KHorns are in Mississippi.
  10. One thing I'm learning about this "game" (I'll call it) is that there is no end. No end at all. I guess that's good. Everyone just acquires equipment, uses it for some period of time, disposes of it, and then acquires something else. The churn might take weeks, months or years, but it doesn't stop. In fact it seems the parts that are most likely to hang around the most or forever are the KLIPSCH. There is no point to this rambling. Just an observation.
  11. I have had different pairs of cornwalls over the years. The pair I have now are verts. I have found this to be a huge convenience since cornwalls are large and imposing in a room, especially for a center channel. They can be laid on their side effectively (and they get more bass that way too). You can lay the vert beast down on its side, and put the TV on top of it. It makes a great TV stand. Then the thing blasts right at you. Some of the HT receivers have controls to tell the system the center channel is either above or below the TV. While I am not using it that way now, I have and it works. Corn over Acedemy! Enjoy.
  12. Well, my amp is actually a 299a second edition which I think means that it has the chassis configuration update (I.E. looks like a B chassis, + the bigger iron), but did not get the face lift with new logo. Apparently hybrids went out. Anyhow I did not connect it to the heresys yet, but the corns sounded like new speakers when I got it back from Craig. It truly is a great sounding amp. I'm sure it would be great on the heresys too. I used it for a few weeks before I had it rebuilt. In fact the seller on EBay claimed it had been rebuilt. It was like night and day when I got it back from Craig. I recommend NOSValves highly. In fact no matter what Scott you get, you should seriously consider a rebuild. They generally all need it.
  13. How about the guy that shoots the laywer with the tree in between them. The laywer gets shot in the head and face and dances back and forth around the tree to try and avoid the point blank shots. Then the guy just quits shooting and walks away. The laywer then walks away all shot up in the face and head and neck. Must have been a small caliber as he was shot in the head and it looked like it must have bounced off.
  14. To the first time Scott guys. You should check out the 222s. I had Craig rebuild both of my Scotts and the 222 has a great great sound. The 299 has more power, no doubt. But I can't say enough about the 222 though. I'd buy another one of those in a second. As long as you are using Klipsch speakers, the 222 has enough power for even a large room. My basement is 22x36 and it's fine down there on the Las.
  15. Max, There's women in the guys bathroom. What kind of place are you running?
  16. If that info is correct, he's 5' 11' and only 120 lbs (if I read it right). That's borderline malnourished. Maybe he wears the SARS mask because he's sick, like as in AIDS.
  17. What a coincidence . My verts listed below are just a few serial numbers away (3L619, 3L620). I only moved to Georgia 4 years ago, and am originally from Syracuse. Lived up there all my life. I got my pair of corns up there in 1990. There used to be a big Klipsch dealer in Syracuse called "Superior Sound". They sold tons of Heritage speakers back in the day. They have been gone now for probably 10 years, maybe more. I am going home for Thanksgiving. Hmmm
  18. You guys!!! I think I'll just keep my filtered up amps the way they are for now. You are like mad scientists. It might be faster to just build a whole new amp. Seriously though, thanks for all this good info. I will never buy another Scott now. Too many filters
  19. I agree with your defintions. However, not that the aim of music listening is to not represent reality at times. My favorite music is live music, live recordings. That's why I stated the above. To me, 2 Ch stereo + Klipsch works best right now for music like that. So I do want to recreate the reality of what was seen and heard at a show. However, I do agree there's a time and place for the 5.1 sound. I love multichannel sound. I didn't mean to give the wrong impression. I'm sure Pink Floyd would be awesome in 5.1. Now there's an example of me wanting to purposely not receate reality. Let's have the cash register sounds and bells come from sneaky places. I guess I'm saying my preferences for certain types of music are on specific types of systems, and that it is not all inclusive.
  20. I guess everyone knows what I think on this one. I admit it doesn't read well. But I have 2 sons and a daughter....and this has been going on forever it seems. If he was truly sooooo innocent, why pay millions of dollars and set a precedent, then go ahead and repeat the behavior. Something's up, and I think we are all about to find out. Sorry if I offended anyone. I was on a jury once. Everyone should do that at least once to understand the whole process. I very educating experience.
  21. I agree with keeping the HT and stereo audio systems separate. No band plays in 5.1 that I know of. I've used "surround sound" and various DSP environments to simulate a concert hall and stadium (I.E. echo) with success. But 2 CH. is what I enjoy most when listening to music. I have a Sony HT in a box, a decent system. And there are some nice perceptions hearing 5.1 music. But to me, it doesn't mix with the Klipsch live band sound, as well as 2 Ch. Now I am speaking about music, not TV or movies. For movies and TV, I definitely prefer the HT system and all its wonderful configurability. In fact, with all my Klipsch speakers, I could probably have a kick a$$ HT. I might have to try it sometime.
  22. Some of this thread absolutely kills me. "Poor Mike", "I feel sorry for everyone involved". Yes, the kids. I hope that's what you meant. MJ is the classic pedophile profile. His amusement park is one of his lures. His pretending to not have grown up, another. If it weren't for his money he would already be in prison. The dude needs help. But mostly he needs to be punished. He deserves to be in prison, and I hope he goes. Do you feel sorry enough for him to bring your young son to his ranch, and let him spend the night with Mike? Is that what you mean about feeling sorry, like he's not doing anything wrong??? You know any normal person of average income molesting young boys would be in jail. Somehow, Mike's avoided it up until now. I hope he goes to jail and learns what he's been doing to these young boys all these years. He'll probably sleeze out of this one too, though. Poor Mike!!
  23. I work in electronic controls development. We require thousands of hours of field data on hardware changes before a new design is released, and that's really not that much when put into perspective. It's all relative. I know Craig is an excellent tech. But he's experimenting on this one. We all know he'll get it right. It may be something awesome once complete. We don't know yet. But until it's been run for a few hundred hours with no ill effects, to me that's untested. I'll venture to say that due to tolerances, it takes several amps to verify that all the circuits remain robust and have not had their longevity compromised. Again, it simply goes back to Ryan making this mod sound like you clipped a cap and resistor and got a major improvement. I'm sorry to have contributed to sending Craig on this odyssey. I didn't think it was a snowball effect type of change with so much work involved. And you're right, tinkering was the wrong word.
