  1. OK, back in town from a short vacation at the beach. The new speaker still works great! I did purchase form an authorized dealer and had to return the damaged driver back to them. I use Sounds Unlimited in Danville, Virginia, an authorized dealer of Klipsch and B & W. The Klipsch sales rep is from Maryland, and I hesitate to put his name or the name of the Sounds Unlimited manager on the site as you guys would know who they are. Administrators, Thank you for your concern and I hope you are able to tell what the problem is. Perhaps you could post your findings.
  2. I would not use RC-7's for your mains. One of the 8" drivers is a "passive" type driver (not sure thats it). In other words one 8" driver is in full use and the other is not. For the money you would be far better off with the RF-3's or RB-5's. Don't get me wrong, the RC-7 is a simply awsome center and would do OK for mains, however at that price point you could almost get the RF-5's or maybe even the RF-7's with a little extra cash. If size is your problem then the RB-5's are the ticket. I know nothing about the new lines and perhaps there is a speaker mentioned above that would be even better. Good luck!

  4. I replaced the driver and so far so good. It looks as if Klipsch installed a "reject" driver that made it past QC. The metal in the cone was bent and torn at one spot, the terminal conections looked "burned" and there was a ball point pen ink mark on the ceramic. The speaker was obviously a return/faulty speaker that made it past QC to be installled in a new RS-7 for distribution. COME ON GUYS AT KLIPSCH, THE ECONOMY ISN'T THAT BAD, IS IT?
  5. An outboard amplifier is the very best way to go with most recievers due to clean power. I currently have a 150 watt x 5 channel amp (.02%thd) used with an Onkyo TXDS797 which has 100 watts per channel @.08%thd. That system is now in my bedroom and my new main system features a Yamaha RX-V3300 that has 130 watts per channel @.02%thd. The amplifier did not help the Yamaha at all due to Yamaha's dedication to clean power. For me to "upgrade" the Yamaha's power I would need to add a 200watt amplifier, but with Klipsch speakers that is just too much power that I will never use and I can spend that money on a good DVD player.
  6. I don't know if I would agree that it is the best price point just because it comes "factory direct". That could mean their profit margin is simply higher. Not arguing as I have never actually auditioned an SVS sub before, and would very much like to. I may have never really heard good sub bass yet. I do know that I am totally happy with a front KSW-15 and a rear B & W ASW1000. These provide (or either of them) more bass than I could ever need in my house. However I think the tube design looks cool and I don't doubt for one minute that I would be amazed with their bass either.
  7. I second the RS solution. Why not the RS-7. Can you perhaps audition both speakers at home. At one time I used a rc-3 in the exact same position you are discribing and it just did not sound that great. Perhaps you could use a wall speaker mount a place a RS-? on the wall above the chairs angled down.
  8. OK, my driver is in!!!! I will replace tonight and see if that corrects the problem

    Sub Prices

TheEar, You are correct, that is my reference DVD. It also is where my wife "drew a line in the sand". She did not and does not enjoy that much bass. At the time I only had a KSW 15. I know have that and a rear B & W ASW 1000 sub preparing for the second release. BTW, reading another "slaming" post I found out that you work for/with SVS. I have never heard an SVS sub but have felt they must be great subs as most all love them. My question would be what SVS subs (front/back)would you reccomend to me. Pyro, It seems you are Airbore!!! Just buy the sub and stick your chest out in pride with what you have done!!!! Marriage counselors are standing by!!!
  10. Still waiting for a replacement. I think this is mostly my dealers fault/problem at this point as Klipsch said they would repair. BUT......STILL WAITING!!!! and becoming inpatient.
  11. Thanks for the help. I see Khorns and Lascalas all the time on Ebay and I have always been tempted to purchase "sound unheard". With your reccomendations I do believe I should listen for myself. The other question I have is that they are rated at 100W maximum continous. My amp is 130 watts per channel and I love top listen at loud ranges. Any concerns there?
  12. I thought this may be the case as the Heritage stuff gets really good press. I'm not so sure I'm convinced on the three way arguement yet. I have a set of KLF-20's (I know no comparison to the LaScalas) that are three way that do not seem as detailed as my RF-7's. Are the LaScalas horns and crossovers a better quality that would make them sound better in a three way configuration? Thanks for the reply's.
  13. I have never heard an A/B comparison between the two. How would the LaScala's stack up against say the RF-7's. I ask this as I have always considered getting the LaScala or soem other Heritage speaker for Home Theater.
  14. I would also add that even though you have two different series of speakers, they are still Klipsch. They will timber match better from series to series than say moving to a different product with different "waves".
  15. I second the "smart". When you can upgrade, those will make "dandy" surrounds.
  16. You pretty much hit it on the head. I really like the soundstage of the RF-3's though. To me the 7's are more open with much bigger head room. The 3's seamed to be tighter but I atribute that to power going into the two speakers. The lower the wattage the better sounding the 3's would be IMO.
  17. Sounds like a good deal to me. My dealer wants $949 for the 2900.
  18. Great question!!! I posed this very question on Hometheaterforum yesterday and no one responded. I have also read the 2900 had some bugs and was considering the purchase of a high end DVD player and a seperate universal player down the road. This thread really helped me. When is the 3900 to be released? Will it be a universal format version.
  19. I was using an AMC 2n-100-5 150 watt per channel amp through my Yamaha RX-V3300. Quite frankly the internal amps in the reciever are so good I pulled it off and placed the amp on my Onkyo TX DS 797 in the bedroom.
  20. OK....My bet is on speaker wire grounding out somewhere. Perhaps it is so small that when the volume is up the vibration is causing the exposed wire to touch.
  21. I hear you AVMAN, I truly believe the same as you, everyone makes mistakes. My dealer took me rather lightly at first which highly concerned me. I have spent something like $15,000 with them over the past 20 months and was offended. I bascially went back to them with my RS-7 problem and they ordered a part, yet to come in. If it is not corrected by them I will contact Klipsch, however the damage has been done. No matter what you buy or sell the product is only as good as the company/people behind them. In this case the people are the company's agent. Hopefully this will be resolved soon. This weekend I still had the problem and I am getting more upset everytime I play a movie or watch TV. I am glad to hear that you have had only one problem. Perhaps as Bob commented, Klipsch has addressed some QC issues. However no matter how many posts I read about low failure rates, I am still in the 29% failure rating and had to correct one of the problems myself and am still waiting for resolution on the other.
  22. Between the two get the KLF series. I have both, and the 20's to me sound better. However the RF-7's sound better then the 20's. The one thing to consider is power. I noticed it took more power to really get the 20's sounding deep wher with less power the 3's sounded better. The 3's also sound better at lower volumes.
  23. Hey, I wouldn't say "win-win" at all. I had to fix the RF-7 myself as I did not want to carry back a 90 plus pound speaker and be without out for who knows how long and the surround speaker still has not been replaced (suposedly in the process. I have purchased 7 Klipsch Reference speakers and 5 klipsch non-reference speakers. 2 of the 7 Reference speakers were poor/broken for a 28.5% failure rate. No problems with the non reference. Klipsch actually wins (except for negative press like this) as I was inconvienianced and they still made a sale. I was compensated nothing, not even an "I'm sorry, we will do better" which is all I would like to hear. Don't get me wrong, I love Klipsch and their sound. They should really go out of their way to accomodate the horn loaded speaker lovers as their are more than a few folks who love to bash the horn sound on other forums. It makes it that much worse when the product we so adimatly defend on those sites are starting to get a reputation as being "flimsy". I understand that they are the # 2 speaker company in America based on volume. Better be careful with that as the # 1 speaker company is Bose who have had to resort to mass marketing and volume big store sales. They (Bose) simply could not compete in the smaller Botique stores where A/B comparison and a more educated (SOUND WISE) person shops. Again, please do not take this as "slamming" Klipsch. They have a great product that they need to tighten their quality control proceedures on.
  24. Well that is the bottom line. My dealor had told me that the RW line would be a lower end than the RSW line. A smaller RW may "trump" a larger KSW line product. I think this was done as the RSW line is a little pricey for many people. I have a decent budget and could afford an RSW sub but I have never felt that the RSW line was a great product when comparing cost to performance ratio.
  25. Yea, I probabaly misunderstood. You have not mentioned the RC-7 as a center. The reason I say this is that I had the RC-3 as a center and upgraded to the 7. That alone was the best single upgrade to my whole setup, even better than RF-3's to RF-7's. I got my RC-7 for around $600 new and it sounds like you are getting better pricing than I am. The 7 has better bass and headroom than the much thinner sounding RC-3. With movies that is the most important speaker.
