  5. Fact: The Rf3 is the bottom of the line reference. I would never look to them as the flagship for bass. I owned a pair of RF7 that blow them away along with KG 5 .5 's so realize what you have and augment with a sub if necessary. The RF3 is a good full range starter speaker but has it's flaws bass being one of them. The RF3 is built to a price range and cliental. They are a good speaker but, don't get me wrong for heavy bass look elsewhere or into a "good" sub.
  6. Yes, I would like to try it but I don't seem to understand what it will do that the Crown will not. If I can get this unit working I would like to do that 1st. From all the research I have done this vintage crossover has quite a following and is said to help make beautiful music. So I will send you my address, how much do you think it will cost to ship? I could give you my UPS number. Thanks, Brett
  7. For all those interested in Bi-amping read this article it's great http://www.sound.westhost.com/bi-amp.htm Now I just need to figure out how to get these units working.
  8. Here is the manual. I tried to hook it up tonight and the signal seems to be not strong enough. I think the gain is a mismatch from the preamp. Crown Crossover1.pdf
  9. Ok here is the picture of the back
  10. OK guys I can try this set up on a pair of Khorns or 2 way KG 5.5 2 ways. Which would you guys try 1st? I also need a little help with how to hook the crown up. If I have pictures of the back could you Pros help me. THX
  11. But...you gotta root for the Bengals next week... The price may be to steep[:S]
  12. Yes the crown is a vinitage 2 channel crossover that is highly regarded. It has XLR and 1/4". Have a look: http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=11 No it does not allow for delay.
  13. OK, well here is how I am going to hook up my system (OPTION 1): I have 2 amps Dynaco Mark III tubes for tweeter and mid range horn and 1 McIntosh 2300 SS amp for bass bin. I am going to send the signal out of the pre amp from dual output to the Crown VFX-2. I will set the crossover to 400 low pass and 400 high pass. I will the send the 400 and below to the MacIntosh SS and the 400 and above to the Dynaco MarkIII's. The high signal will then go to the ALK to separate for the two drivers. Or (OPTION2) I could send a full signal to the Dynaco Mark III by-passing the Crown and only set the crossover 400 and below signal to the bass bin. Which would you do?
  14. I don't want to add anything like a subwoofer. I want the most out of just the Khorns therefore bi-amping with active crossover.
  15. I always liked Athena from the original Battlestar Galactica ( Remember her )?
  16. Thanks, Colin I will let you know after I try.
  17. Hmmm, don't know if I am in agreement with the last post. I would really like a comment on the question that I asked regarding Bi-Amping with those with experience or who have done it. Thanks
  18. There is nothing more logical than a Vulcan with a hot, hot body wearing tight catsuits, which is exactly what Jolene Blalock did during her time playing T’Pol on STAR TREK ENTERPRISE
  19. I don't remember seeing anyone post this Star Wars Space chick..... Carrie Fisher
  20. I have pursued this same application but I have a question. I am currently running Dynaco Mark III's to my horns and SS Dynaco 410 to the bass bins. I have along with another purchase McIntosh received a Crown 2 channel active crossover ( its said to be a great vintage piece by many ). AL Klappenberger said that I should follow the ALK setup for Bi-AMP since those are the crossovers I am running and run an in-line active or passive filter to the bass bin from the SS amp at or around 500 - 400 HZ. I am currently running full signal and the bass is overpowering the horns. It seems the match is not there as you spoke of above. Others on this forum said that the natural roll off of the drive would be fine but I would have to test. So, what will the crossover do as I plan to put this in-line when back from traveling. Thanks
  21. If any of you have taken on this project what did you find was the best way of going about this? What I am hopin for is a step by step process for Sub (A) then (. I have read a few articles that involve crawling around abd a SPL meter ( I own one ) then I have read abouot EQ options. Overall I am overwelmed and looking for used and proven methods.
  22. No you are not out of your mind. Different receivers and amps will sound different, that is madness of this hobby! That's why we love it so, LOL. Anyway find what sounds the best "to YOU" and stick with it. The KG horn can sound edgy or even harsh at high volumes with the wrong match so consider that when choosing. I tell you what I would drive those with, a Scott 299B or Scott 233 and walk away, but then again thats my opinion from having those great little integrated amps. Let me know what you decide or if I can help further.
  23. Wow, I am going to start another thread 2-3 subjects at one time sucks. [:S] EdmundGTP the floor is yours!
  24. It seems the Art clean box drops the low freq. and the mod fixes it. I just need to find the parts and I am not sure the caps I have will do it. I want all the subsonic freq. my lfe signal is sending.
