The Japanese tube crowd is far smarter than this and took their heads out of the A**es quite a few years before most of the US of A audio world. ---------------- I don't really understand what is imbecilic about asking someone why they prefer the 275 over the 240 and the they state "Who cares about the sound, the 275 is bigger."? How is this offensive? That's what the guy said....
  2. I have read the 275 is probably the worst sounding of the MAC's. Here's a couple quotes from the mastering guru Steve Hoffman regarding the 275... "The Mac 275 is (in my opinion) the worst sounding Mac amp, and the new ones don't sound anything like the old ones anyway. Only the lower powered Macs have that "sound"; the ones that use a 1614 / 6L6GC. I had a reissue 275 in my office at DCC for playback and sold the damn thing." Some Jap must want this bad boy...
  3. Ooooh...make that 30 watchers....and no bids...
  4. Hi Aaron, Yeah, It's too bad the La Scala isn't as highly regarded as the Belle "looks wise". I really like the look of mine. They have a beautiful birch wood grain pattern. No complaints with the sound either. If I had the money, I would keep 'em, and just buy the khorns also. I know there is some interest in mine because I have 28 people who put them on their "watch" list. We'll see what happens. Personally, I'd like to see a bidding war in the final minute...

I run the Las with a pair of MC30's or 8b. They sound fantastic with both. I prefer to use the MC30's with the Las as they are a little more sensitive amp. With them, you can really hear into the music like nothing I've ever heard before. I would not be selling the Las if a pair of Khorns weren't being delivered to me. I wish I could keep them both, but I don't have the room right now. Charlie
  6. A shameless plug for my La Scala's I recently placed on eBay. I realize I might have priced them a little "rich" at $1500, but La Scala's seem to be kinda hot right now. Also, I need to get a little extra dough to pay for the '80 Khorns that my friend will be delivering from Idaho to my house in a couple weeks. Can you beleive I've gone from '76 Cornwall to '88 La Scala to the soon to be '80 Khorns all in less than 1 year? I have climbed the Klipsch ladder pretty quick. This is a disease that I think I'm finally going to get the cure for. God I love these horns! '88 La Scala's
  7. I think the bidder just really really really likes La Scala's! Who wouldn't. I see that he already paid $2126 for a previous pair. Either that or something stinks... eBay La Scala's
  8. I used to run a Yammaha RX-V660 with Klipsch. I remember it as being bright, harsh and very fatiguing. IMHO

I don't think comparing him to Clapton, Aerosmith and RUSH is fair though. Clapton is/was a good guitarist...that's it. Aerosmith are just Rolling Stones rip offs. The toxic twins? C'mon, I'll take the Glimmer Twins any day over the toxic twins. RUSH are a breed unto themselves. They haven't put out a good/interesting album since 1989's Presto. Face it, it's hard to last 40's years doing anything. So, it's a miracle some of these guys have lasted as long as they have. Now, try comparing Neil Young to Dylan... Dylan is the man.
  10. How about ALMOST every band that was created from 1985 - 2004. They are all disappointing to me. They continue to dissapoint me with their lack of talent. Actually, it's the fault of the record companies, for promoting these wannabe's. Face it, style over substance is ruling our society & arts lately... Sad...Very Sad indeed...
  11. You heard it before every concert they have played. "Ladies and gentlemen...the greatest rock n roll band in the world...The Rolling Stones...The Rolling Stones!"
  12. 1. Hank Williams 2. Bob Dylan 3. Johnny Cash 4. Frank Sinatra 5. Roy Orbison 6. Willie Nelson Love them or hate them, their voices are really so unique. They are special voices of our time.

Blame the horns, not SS. Keith ---------------- Keith, I didn't mean to generalize all Klipsch with all SS. I was satisfied running SS Yamaha with a pair of 4.2's for 10+ years. But, I also didn't know any better. Once I heard the tubes & horns combo, I was immediately hooked. I hadn't heard music so smooth-n-rich and effortless before. Now, I think that I have become so conditioned to the tubes & horns sound, that the SS & horns combo just sounds too bright and detailed for me. I have read that some of the older(tubelike) SS works well with horns also. I would probably like this sound. But, it's not for everyone. When it comes down to it, there is more than one way to skin a cat and it's all about personal preference. I could see how some people could like the detailed sound. Heck, I lived with it for 10+ years until I saw the light... Charlie
  14. Audible, Steve's forum is also a BIG reason why I invested in a nice pair of MC30's. They really do bring the breath of life into the music! Simply amazing. Glad to hear you like yours. I am driving a pair of Las with mine. Couldn't be happier. Tubes-n-Horns really are a magical combo. I had forgotten how Solid State and horns sounded together until a couple weeks ago. My parents have a pair of 3.2's being driven with a SS Denon receiver. I listened to a couple CD's & Albums. I could not beleive how bright and detailed they sounded! Talk about an ear bleeding headache. It made me not want to listen to music anymore. Which is a rarity. Charlie
  15. "SET amps are great, but nothing I've ever heard (at least for under 20 grand) has that exact Mac 30 sound. The Mac does one thing well, but what a thing!" Steve Hoffman - Music industry professional I think Steve has enough experience with music to know what he's talking about. Check out this thread for info on the 30's as well as what tubes Steve suggests you use with them... http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=20759
  16. I feel a mix/match of vintage and new is the way to go. I have vintage MC30's running through a MAC C22II to my '88 La Scala's, and a vintage Marantz 8b also running through the C22II to a pair of Tannoy 15" Monitor Golds. I'm happy with this set-up and can get a nice variety of sound depending on what I want to listen to: Rock, classic, acoustic... I can choose between vinyl or CD, SACD and also choose the amps and speakers I want to listen on. I have never been happier. Another advantage of vintage is that it holds/increases in value over time.
  17. I have always wanted nice stuff, but have only recently been able to afford it. Bought my first Klipsch (KG 4.2) when I was 20. I wanted the BIG Klipsch but could only afford the 4.2's. Ran them for the past 12 years with solid state Yamaha. It's nice to be making some money to afford some decent gear. Music has never sounded so good! I don't have time or the desire to watch TV since I've upgraded my system. I have my system configured so depending on what I am listening too, I can choose the La Scala's or the Tannoy 15" Monitor Gold's. What a treat! At 32, I'm happy I finally bought some good stuff that I can keep for the rest of my life.
  18. I side with Paul on his disagreements with Alan. Most if not all of Alan's post come off as... "My taste is more expensive than yours, therefore, I have better taste than you ~ arrogance". Always bringing up rare/expensive albums that most people don't care about anyway... This comment alone defines Alan's lack of humility... "Maybe not so nutty when a milk crate half full of LPs is worth more than YOUR entire system times TEN or more!" I think most people don't appreciate crap comments like this! Amazing, this seams to be the attitude of the closed minded liberals? I usually get along OK with everyone, even nit-wit D*m*cr*ps! Touche'
  19. I bought two pairs for $949/pr. I swear by them. Makes my system really come alive like I've never heard. I'll never go back!
  20. I am looking to sell my '76 walnut oil cornwalls. They are not MINT though. All the drivers are original/no mods. Check out my ad on audiogon. If you'd like to swing by and see them PM or email me.
