  1. is that 4x4 meters? 4x4 feet would seem pretty tiny, like a closet... your budget for cd player and amp seems pretty high to me for relatively inexpensive speakers. If it were me, I would go a step or two up for the speakers, like rb-35's or rb-75's and spend less on amp and player. If the cd player is your only source for the system, you don't even need an integrated, just get a nice 2 channel amp and connect the cd player to it directly. I don't know what the prices are like in Europe, but Sony makes nice CD/SACD players that you can get for under 200 USD.
  2. After thinking it over, I think I'll be happiest with the RC-7... unless there is some very compelling reason to do otherwise. Thanks for your advices James
  3. 190 lbs... yikes. Only 30 lbs less than me I think I'll go with the PB2+... moving that Ultra up 4 flights of narrow stairs, and then back down again 6 months later, and then back into a new apartment a few months after that is a little much for me...
  4. I'm willing to make you a set of special cables that will run you around $30,000... At first they may look like plain old Radio Shack zip cord, but I garauntee they are the finest in modern technology James
  5. I currently have RB-75s for my front speakers, and I want to get a center speaker soon. I am debating whether to get the RC-7 or another RB-75. I would probably have to put the RB-75 upside down on top of my TV to keep the level of the tweeters more even. The 75 is a little less expensive than the RC-7 - which would you guys reccomend? Thanks, James
  6. Here is my theory on people and music appreciation: I am a college student and have always loved listening to, and playing music, but my impression is that most people who claim to love music, love it for the wrong reasons. They like a certain song or group because is trendy or popular, or because they can dance to it at a club. If they like older stuff, like classic jazz, for example, they like it because it is "cool" to like it. Or else they enjoy music in the background, as something to set the mood and break up boring silence, but not as something to be listened to very intently, and therefore not to be played at volumes that force you to concentrate on it intently. Few people appreciate the details of what music actaully sounds like. A person who doesn't care what a piece of music sounds like will have little interest in the equipment that is reproducing it. The only way my new RB-75's have impressed any of my friends is by how loud they can go, and, perhaps surprisingly, by how much bass they can produce - for people used to listening to everything on cheesy computer speakers, headphones, or boomboxes, the RB-75's must sound like they have a built in subwoofer - lets see what they think when I get my PB2+ But they just like loud and bass - it makes for a good party - they don't care about the details. I don't want to come off as a snob here - while I think what I say is accurate, I don't have a problem with it. I realize that if one of them loves, say, collecting stamps, I would probably react in the same clueless way when they show me their most rare and prized acquisition. To each his own I say. James
  7. Just wanted to note that not only do the RB-75's have only one instead of two woofers, it is only an 8 inch woofer compared to the 10 inch woofers on the RF-7. It cannot keep up with the tweeter by any means, and I have already cracked one of the woofers on my pair of RB-75's while the tweeter has handled everything with ease. Soon I'll get a sub, and set the crossover fairly high and should not have any more problems.... If speaker mobility were not an issue for me I would rather have had gotten the RF-7's and not had to buy a sub right away, but I am loving the RB-75's anyway. James
  8. hm... If I save up for a few more months I could get the PB2-Ultra... I don't know if I can wait that long though... If I have a bar in my room, should I worry about shattering glasses when the sub is playing loud?
  9. Thanks for your input, Frank - looks like I will probably go for the PB2+. I think I like the polymer finish over the fabric covering, so that works out. Thanks again, James
  10. If the PB2 is louder and less expensive, what are any advantages to the Ultra? Is it more musical or accurate? I listen almost exclusively to music, but enjoy movies every once in a while, and I do like it loud, usually around 100 db (I try to be careful with my ears though...). However, I would rather choose a better quality sound than a few db's of loudness, so is the PB2 still superior in this regard? Thanks, James
  11. I have RB-75's as my main speakers and have them on speaker stands I bought from Axiom Audio. My concern is that the platform the speaker sits on is too small for the rather large 75's. It is 6 inches square, and the speaker is 10x12. So far I havent had any problems with them falling, but the setup seems a little wobbly and insecure, although the stands themselves are sturdily built. The base is large, sitting on 3 spikes on the carpet about 14 inches apart from one another, so that is not a problem. How do I use the threaded holes on the bottom of the speakers to attach them to the stands? Would it be a good idea to bolt a larger platform to the existing platform? I also think I read somewhere about filling the center support column with shot to make it heavy? I would appreciate any advice you guys can give, or ideas you have tried that have worked. Thanks, James
  12. I've been looking at subs for a while now, and was originally considering the SVS 20-39 PC+ but recently decided to up my budget and go for either the CS-Ultra package or the PB2+. What is the difference between these two subs? I currently have RB-75's as my mains, and an HK 525 reciever. My room is 15 feet wide, and about 35 feet long. However, I will be moving next year to an apartment of as of yet unspecified dimensions. Thanks James
  13. Few extra dollars? The RF-7's are twice the price as the RB-75's. I looked at both, but went with the 75's for $975 from an authorized dealer, the RF-7's would have been around $1900. When I have more money I will probably get a pair, they are definitely an awesome speaker. Though is WAF is an issue, the RB-75's sound awesome, are much smaller than comparable floorstanders, and are a very attractive piece of furniture with the real wood veneer. As for the bass on the 75's it is mostly there, though at loud volumes is gets a bit distorted. They still get plenty loud enough though. A floorstanding speaker will certainly have deeper and punchier bass, and this is the trade off between the 75's and say the RF-35s, which are around the same price. However, the tweeter in the 75's is worth it, IMO, which is why I went with them. If you want it all, then the RF-7's are the answer, but for much more money and size. James
  14. While you pay shipping costs online, you pay sales tax in the real world. If your buying in NY like me, 8.5% on $2000 for the RF-7's turns out to be about as much or maybe more than the shipping I'd pay online. Just something to consider... James
  15. I faced the same decision a few months ago, since these two speakers are around the same price. I went with the RB-75's and I am very glad I did. You will not miss any loudness... I've had AC/DC playing at over 110 db on several occasions. To me, the 75's sound much smoother and more "effortless" than the RF-35s. I will be getting a sub in a month or two, probably an SVS, because they do lack a lot of bottom end. However, since its a home theater, you'll probably get a sub for the RF-35's anyway, so you won't really miss the bottom end on the mains too much. Finally, the real wood finish on the RB-75's makes them a very attractive piece of furniture. Also, check the archives for discusssions on this same topic. There should be a few of them. James
  16. Hey I like Norah Jones; what's wrong with that?
  17. Yeah, I'll talk to him about it when I find out how much it will cost. But I am not the type to make a big deal out of this kind of stuff... just want to get it fixed so I can play more Christmas music.
  18. A few week a buddy of mine came over with his nephew, who decided to touch one of the woofers on my RB-75s and put some minor dents in it. I was a little pissed, but figured it wasn't a big deal. However, the other night I turned them up loud for the first time since that happened and the dented woofer cracked around the edge. So I suppose when the woofer was dented it was also weakened. I didn't turn them up any louder than they have frequently been before. Now, of course, it sounds awful, so my question is, do I need to send the speaker in to Klipsch, or can I replace the woofer myself? Attached is a photo of the damage. Thanks, James
  19. What about Vinyl vs. SACD? I have a new SACD player, but down the road I want to get into Vinyl as well. When I have some money I think I will get an MMF-5, hopefully find a slightly used one for cheaper. But hey a new one costs the equivelent of only about 25 SACD's... Ok so it isn't cheap, but at least it looks cool Btw, did anyone else here get stuck in NYC last night? I slept in a conference room in my office building, not very well of course, and I am dead tired... James
  20. hm... sounds like I should wait - I'm gonna send an email to cancel that order. My application is 90% or more music, so the new model sounds better for me. James
  21. I just ordered the PC+ 20-39... My emotions are wavering between elation at the prospect of getting my hands on this sub, and nausea at the amount of money I shouldn't have just spent... It's back to being a broke college kid for a while... James
  22. Still undecided... started thinking about the PB2+, but they raised the shipping to $99... argh.
