    KT-LCR

Hey everyone, I have decided to place my pair of KT-LCR's up for sale. I have used them very lightly as rears in my HT setup for about a week. I am going to go the all Heresy route. Let me know if you are interested in them before I put them up on eBay. They are Medium Oak and in great conditon. If you are interested, email or private message me. Thanks! Milton milton@hauntedmansion.com
  2. The KT-LCR is tall and thin. The Heresy is short and fat. The way that the rears are set up in my system, it favors tall thin speakers. I will give them a try and see how they work. I may still trade these for Heresys.
  3. Hi, I just scored a pair of the THX certified KT-LCR speakers and will possibly use them for rears in my HT setup. I am currently running Heresy Fronts and Center, but am using KG-1's for my rears. I know that the KT-LCR are a step-up from the KG-1's, but will they be a waste being used as rears? Should I try to sell these to someone who needs them and get Heresys (my other half is going to KILL me)? Will the KT-LCR be sufficient? Thanks!
  4. I have already tried switching the leads.... What I am mainly looking for is what characteristics I can expect from different types of caps..... ie - Auricaps, Hovlands, etc. Anyone have any "real world" experience with them with Heresys?
  5. The Zen's are certainly an improvement over the cans that were originally in the Heresy's. However, they still sound a bit ragged in the upper end. At times they begin to approach "detailed," but only from time to time. In fact, I used Solens for a short time, they sounded more neutral than the Zens, but tended to have lots of grain. I am looking for something that will sound smooth, detailed with lack of grain. I heard that Auricaps will do just that. I really dont want to "tone them down," - just smooth out the upper end. I have considered Hovlands, but they are very pricey. Any ideas? Milton
  6. I am currently using Zen caps in my Heresy I xovers. I am thinking about changing them out for some Auricaps. Worth it? Anything else I should consider? Thanks, Milton
  7. Does anyone know the difference between the Pro and Regular version of these are? I know that the Pro versions are more powerful, but is there a noticable difference in the feeling they create?
  8. Dwight, What year Heresy are you using? I am using a circa 1974 with all alnico drivers and it works perfectly with any TV right on top. My current setup uses one. Milton
  9. This has to be the ugliest Heresy that I have ever seen. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=61378&item=5740539261&rd=1 It actually has some bids on it.
  10. Yes, very sad indeed. He was also the voice of Lumiere in Disney's "Beauty and the Beast."
  11. I am looking for KG-1's either as a set or as a single speaker. I would like to use it as my rear center speaker. Anyone have one? Let me know how much you would like for it. Thanks! Milton
  12. I was just given an Eico ST-70 that is in pretty good condition. It plays very cleanly, but has a slight hum on the right channel. It is also missing one knob. I have started re-capping the unit and it sounds really nice! Does anyone know how this would compare to a Scott unit (299 and 222 series)?
  13. Hi! I just replaced a 160 wpc Sansui 9900z with a HK430 and couldn't be happier. I have it hooked up to a pair of Dynaco A-25's and the sound is fuller, more dynamic and realistic. I would have never dreamed that a 25 wpc amp would work so much better than 160 wpc. The Dynacos with the Sansui sounded clean, but lacked any kind of dynamics or realism. I too just replaced the "fuse-type" bulbs in the HK430. I had to remove the face to get to the screws to take off the bonnet which holds the lights. You can get all the lights from Parts Express. They are the "indicator lamps - 6.3v 250ma" types. If you need to replace the micro bulb that lights the dial pointer, it is the "micro-lamp 6.3v 35ma" type. For what it is worth, I purchaed my HK430 for $15.50 off of eBay. I just picked it up since it was offered locally, so I paid no shipping charges. I guess your $5.00 deal still has me beat! Hopes this helps. Milton
  14. My other half keeps re-arranging the furniture to make it more and more impossible to set up my HT - so, inevitably, she will say - "Why don't you just get rid of the speakers, they really don't fit in my decorating anymore."
  15. S-pouse A-cceptance F-actor or SAF. The reluctance of your significant other to accepting your "pride and joy" sound system. Usually expressed as "Why does that speaker need to be there? It's ugly. Can you hide it behind the curtains." or "These speakers are big and ugly, can we get the Bose cube system? Its pretty, and tey are small!"
  16. Holy $h!t !!!! I go to dinner to find 15 messages left, 2 conversations, and a sale! What a thread! At any rate, my budget I guess is in the $300 range (unless that will only buy a POS). I like the look of both the Peach and the BEZ, but I think that the BEZ is more in my price range. I will not be running any phono, just a CD player. I will be running this through my Outlaw 1050, and will be using a Cambridge Audio unit for CD's. I was told that if I use a tube preamp, that the output from the Outlaw would warm right up. Am I on the right track? Any other ideas?
  17. I am looking for a nice tube pre-amp to use as a 2 channel setup through my Outlaw amp. Any ideas on good units to choose from? I am a HT type of guy, but would like to use my Heresy mains as 2 channel as well. Thanks, Milton
  18. Does anyone here experience this, especially when it comes to speaker placement? Or is it just me?
  19. I recently changed my HT rear speakers from small bookshelf SB-1's to some large floorstanding Boston Acoustics a150's. The result was a much more full and satisfying surround sound experience - even though the speakers do not match my Heresy fronts. Now, I am puchasing a 6.1 setup and need to add a sixth rear speaker. The problem is that I live in a small apartment, and my room is getting cluttered REAL quick! I am considering placing KG-1's in the rear three channels (they look like mini Heresies!) in an effort to save space and take advantage of the 6th rear channel. My questions are as follows: (1) Will going from large floorstanding surrounds to the smaller KG-1's make that big of an impact in sound quality - even though there is a third speaker? (2) Should I keep the larger "surrounds" and just add a smaller "rear effects" sixth speaker (or vice versa)? Thanks for your responses!
  20. Does anyone know anything about the Cambridge Audio's DVD-300 player? Is this a good unit? Would it work well with the 1050/Heresy combo? Thanks
  21. I use my system mainly for HT but also want it for occasional 2 channel music as well. Do you have any recommendations on which DVD player would fit the bill to my above description? I am looking at Denon player such as the 2800. Milton
  22. Ok, now this may sound silly, but if I match a good quality DVD player with the 1050/Heresy combo, can I pick a DVD player that can produce a smooth, mellow sound (and thus partially achiving the smoothness that tubes impart)? If there is such a beast, what is it? I don't have the funds or desire to go to a tube preamp, so I am exploring all my options here. Thanks! Milton
  23. Soundog, Currently, I am using a Yamaha receiver that is in my opinion - on the bright side - and the high end is a bit more forward that I would like. Will the Outlaw "tame" some of the forwardness of the Heresy/Yamaha combo? In other words, would you characterize the Outlaw as a "bright" sounding receiver? If it is bright, would I be better off with a mellower unit? I understand what you are saying about a "live" sounding room. I have just placed my Heresy's on a thick Oriental carpet, and it has smoothed them out nicely. Previously, with hardwood floors, the Yammy, and horns - the sound was WAYYYYY to bright. Milton
  24. I am going to purchase an Outlaw 1050 receiver to use with my Heresy-based HT theater. Has anyone had "real world" experience with this combo? Anything I should know about how the two blend with each other? Thanks in advance for the replys! Milton
