  1. You know Arto, I want to thank you for the link. I will investigate it, and I do appreciate any positive comments or ideas. That said... As far as the rest of your comments...please stop ASSuming things about me to which you have ABSOLUTELY no knowledge. Right off the bat you stated you don't know me, and then ten minutes later, you act like you can read my thoughts. Seriously, your negative attacks, comments and condescending tone are offensive and counter productive. Re-read your own comments and ask yourself how YOU would respond if someone spoke to you in such a manor. You come across like some Richard Cranium. I want to believe you don't mean to, but I really have to wonder. I don't have to wonder about your appreciation of it if done to you. Frankly, it's one reason I've been purposely vague in my reponses. I've read many of your other threads, and did not wish to be subjected to belittling, or engage in some urinating contest. Seriously, My trading strategy, of which you have inferred several times already, but never bothered to ask, can be found in the book below. There are other books that have echo'd similar rules as well. I had ASSumed you'd read it, I think any trader worth his salt would have, but obviously I'm in error. My bad...my apologies. Not that matters, but I have a book case full of trading books. I've read most of them, but not those dealing with options. I say this to let you know I'm not the freaking idiot that you infer, nor am I ignorant. I lack certain skills that I am amply aware of already...it's just going to take time to hone those. Your other critiques, I will let lie for now, for they too are baseless, inaccurate assumptions. With all do respect, I think if you had ever read, Trading for a Living by Alexander Elder you would have learned that emotions do indeed play a significant role in trading.as does discipline. I don't think that you are a clinical psychologist, but he IS one that happens to be a trader,.so if you want to argue the point, email him and tell him he's a D F that doen't know what the hell he's talking about. With 4 1/2 stars out of 201 reviews, I kind of think most people must have gleaned some value his book. Have I mastered it?? Nope, still a student, not a professional, but I am better than I was before by a large margin. BTW, Are YOU a professional trader? Here's the link, though I have a feeling you won't make use of it. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw_0_20?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=trading+for+a+living+by+alexander+elder&sprefix=trading+for+a+living From Library Journal Soviet-born author and practicing psychiatrist Elder (director, Financial Trading Seminars, Inc.) shares his learning over the years as a professional trader and expert in technical analysis and his principle of understanding the three Ms (Mind, Method, Money), which will strengthen the discipline required to be successful in trading. He explores crucial factors in the markets that most experts overlook, including time, volume, and open interest, and describes little-known indicators to track them profitably. In addition, he covers many of the more technical approaches to investing in futures, such as factoring in the meaning from the Elliott Wave, oscillators, moving averages, Market Logic, and point-and-figure charting. His unique viewpoints in this overly saturated genre explain his particular view that most traders sabotage themselves, while offering tips for others to avoid doing the same. The narration by Richard Davidson soundly guides the listener through this highly specialized work that, although first published seven years ago, remains recommended for university libraries supporting a finance and business curriculum.DDale Farris, Groves, TX Copyright 2001 Reed Business Information, Inc. Product Description Trading for a Living Successful trading is based on three M’s: Mind, Method, and Money. Trading for a Living helps you master all of those three areas: How to become a cool, calm, and collected trader How to profit from reading the behavior of the market crowd How to use a computer to find good trades How to develop a powerful trading system How to find the trades with the best odds of success How to find entry and exit points, set stops, and take profits Arto, to be clear, I don't hate you by any means, so please don't think otherwise. As much as I may think your intelligent and articulate, I just don't appreciate your negative, self serving comments, and no one else does either. In closing, I will offer you this in all sincerity, I wish you great success in your trading.
  2. Coytee, I have nothing against options, and agree they can be a very usefull tool. Unfotunately, I know enough about them at the moment to just get me into trouble. Yeah, I'm once bitten, twice shy on any high leverage plays, but really I just have no experience with them. I have three options books by Angell, Cohen and Fontanills sitting on my shelf now that have yet to be read. I'd love to trade options, but frankly I'm not ready yet. Someday........... I guess I have another nagging issue about options. I have a co-worker that during the last Bull, had (so he claims) over a million bucks in his trading account that he earned trading options. Now the market has his million bucks becasue he gave it all back, by trading options. [:'(] When I finally do get started...I don't want to be like that!! Hell, I can do that now w/o the options[] Yeah I know all about being tough to discuss while typing...I think my lack of being more verbose at times has caused some to assume things, or draw conclusions about me, which are not true. It's been the story of my life. Strangers take one look at me and see trouble written all over me. More than once i've been told that I'm not the person that they ASSumed I was. I can't fault them though, we all do it...unless your Mother Teresa... That's the bad thing about email also...more than once my wife or someone else mis-read my intentions or words. Problem is, I think I say/write too much as it is.
  3. Colin, I agree with you. I'm in the group of people that believes that one of the first things to recover from a recession is infastructure. Companies are likely to start expanding, and infastructure needs to be built. Purchases for vehicles and the such are likely to increase by consumers that have put off buying for the past few years and now need a new car or light truck. Who's the #1 light truck builder? So companies such as CAT and Ford look good to me from the bottom feeder perspective. High risk? You bet, but there's a good chance of greater rewards, if we do indeed get a sustainable bull market running again. BTW, if you've studied Alan Mulally, the CEO of Ford, you'll quickly find out that the dumbest move Boeing ever made was in letting him go. Which is probably the reason why the street likes him. In short, they believe he can pull it off and so do I. Yeah I know the fundamentals don't support it, so I guess it's a leap of faith, and TA. Yes, I know leaps of faith have no place in planning a move in the market, but I'm willing to make this exception based upon Mulallys' track record at Boeing. I have one for you. Look for ELX to break out of its channel. I can't promise it, but........ As companies rebound, once again they'll be needing to upgrade their IT, and companies like Cisco, ELX and EMC should begin to move. Of course, all we need is for that #$%^ head in N. Korea to drop a nuke into South Korea, and we're all back in the toilet again. JMHO
  4. Coytee, I've never been an option player. It's on the to do list, but will have to wait until I've mastered a few other things. Many, Many ago I played in the Futures market. My first trade netted a couple of grand in less than a half hour. In the end, I had my *** handed back to me. Partly my fault, and lack of experience, but the biggest reason for me bailing was my Alaron broker and the "system". More than once I got burned by them or the "system". The final straw was when I was on the phone w/ said broker and was long a commodity, I told him to execute a sell order to exit the market. I'm still on the phone w/ the guy and request a confirmation from him the trade was executed. He tells me he thinks it was, as the commodity traded through my exit price, but he can't tell me for certain because the Board of trade has up to 24 hours to post the trade results. Say what??? So, I go away semi-happy. Two days later I get a margin call from him... It seems my sell order was never executed at all, and by the time he realized it, I was already DEEEEEEEEP in the hole. I filed a complaint and got most of my money back, but it was still a bitter lesson to be learned. I vowed to stay out of that market until I could control my trades and not depend upon a broker. I may have to wait until I retire to play there again. It's such a fast moving market, you dare not take your eyes off of it, and you defintely need to see a confirmation of your trades. Having a preplanned stop order in back of your entry order may not save you. Just another one of life's lessons...
  5. Arto, you're correct you don't know me, and at first glance I think you're reading a LOT more into my responses than is there. My comments concerning market direction, were really my way of saying back to you, there are no absolutes in trading. I didn't mean to imply anything else. Some of your other comments...I'm really just in awe. I don't know how you reached your conclusions as such, when almost every thing I've said has been rather open and lacking in precise detail. I'm no expert, and I don't pretend to be. I've watched a $2000 investment turn into $40K and all I had to do is sweep it off the table, Did I ...NO... Why not? Lack of a plan? NO, I had one. What I didn't have and still struggle with is control of my emotions. It's the bane of many traders and something I work on every day. I realize that I will never be a successful trader until I have that dragon slain. My other major fault , which really falls back on the first, is second guessing myself. I've blown more trades for failing to execute a plan. Call it a lack of discipline...or emotions or a combination. I don't care, it's my issue and one day I hope to master it. It's easy to say to Plan your trade, and trade your plan...it's just hard to do sometimes. Before the market fell apart, the charts told me to get the hell out, and I did. I parked my money. Stayed out for months. Then even though I lacked a clear sign, I gew impatient and in reality I got suckered into a mini rebound, I reentered the market and unfortunately like most I rode it down, like the frog placed in a pot of cold water, but slowly boiled alive.Since the bottom I've seen a 38% rebound in my investments, but I wish I'd just stayed out to begin with. It's no real comfort, but I had a lot of Wall Street experts joining me in my stupidity. I've read, and you probably have as well books by Alexander Elders, John Murphy and others. All well respected technicians. Any one of which probably knows more than all of us on this board combined. Frankly I believe a lot of what they have to say. That said, I don't place any value in Fibonacci numbers either and I realize many of the indicators are derivatives of others. Do I care? Not really. If I use one indicator and find another that's in family, when I'm searching for confirmation or a signal by at least three sources, I don't double count those in family as two, I consider them as one source. You may not agree with these authors, maybe they don't fit your style of trading. However, I find that they speak to me. I think divergences of indicators vs. price is one of the best tools there is for predicting the markets future. Can you nail it down and say tomorrow is going to be the day the market turns? Hell no you can't, and I don't know anyone that can. However, as a warning of thing to come, I've seen it work too many times to not take heed. Do I think TA is infallable, no it's not. If it was easy everyone would be doing it, and some software weenie would have written a black box program that would nail the market every time. So far, no one has done so, and I doubt if they ever will. Anyone purchasing such a program is just wasting their money IMO. That's not to say one can't use TeleCharts or Metastock to run a prescreening in search of tradeable stocks. Good luck with your trading. Your experience in shorting is exactly why I don't and probably never will.
  6. For the life of me I can not grasp or understand the anti-gun position. What really gets me is the anti gun crowd all say owning a shot gun is fine, but every thing else is not. What's the difference? When I had this arguement with my nephew he claimed he didn't have to have sex with another man to know how he felt about it, so the "facts" about guns didn't matter becasue he knew what he believed in. So the fact that a shotgun loaded with buck shot is a real street sweeper compared to some one with a spray and pray full auto means nothing? I'm sorry, but as Spock would say that arguement is illogical, I think is it's a control issue. There is always one person, or one group that wants to control another. The anti-gun group is a bunch of passive aggressives with Freudian anal retentive issues...... Face it, if someone wants you DEAD the lack of a firearm isn't going to stop them. I posted these on another thread, but the fact is, you're safer in an armed society than not. This is the pre and post statistics after Florida passed the concealed carry law. http://www.kc3.com/CCDW_Stats/fla_model.htm This is an international study. http://law.bepress.com/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=7212&context=expres
  7. Those should be out lawed. Soon our youth will be intoxicated with the excitement that a full auto brings. I forsee riots and rubber bands littering the streets in protest and want of the real thing. Face it, these leggos are just a gateway gun that will be corrupting the young.[8-)]
  8. <sigh> Bad choice of words on my part as far as 'thinking' the market is due for a correction. The indicators are suggesting to me it's due or is positioning itself for it to happen..Volume and a bearish divergence of the MACD are two indicators suggesting such that come to mind. Which indicators do I use? I use most of them, or at least look at them. However, Volume, RSI, Wilders RSI, MACD, Stocastics and the Ultimate Oscillator are my favorites. What do I look for? Divergences, and confirmation signals. Short stocks? Not me, I may sell, watch and buy back in, but I don't sell short. Just don't have the nads for the added risk. Silly I know, but what can I say. Patterns that seem to work in my view are island tops and botttoms, Head and shoulders, double or triple tops usually hold true, but nothing is infallable. There are probably others. Channels, triangles and a retest of the breakout sometimes work out in my favor. I guess I don't thow anything out, but don't pull the trigger just based upon one signal or pattern. I like to see at least three confirming one another. Market direction is useful, but there are always stocks out there that are contrary to the market. Coytee, I may take you up on your offer. I swear I can look at some indicators and not see the trees for the forest sometimes, which is why I posted. I like to think I have a good eye in spotting changes, but have been known to miss the obvious.
  9. Flipping back to the 'other' debate, I recently had a pro gun/ anti gun discussion w/ my nephew. He's in the camp that believes we should only be allowed to own shotguns and no one should have the right to own a full auto. I tried explaining to him that in order to own a full auto, you need the proper stamps, a DEEP background check and a LOT of money due to the 1986 law. No one is going to rob the local Piggly Wiggly with a gun that cost them $20,000 to buy. I also tried to convince him that a person armed w/ a shotgun loaded w/ buckshot could wreak tens times more havok in close quaters than one praying and spraying. I still don't think he gets it. All in all I ended my arguement with some facts. I find people of certain mind sets don't like facts, but here they are anyway. This is the pre and post statistics after Florida passed the concealed carry law. http://www.kc3.com/CCDW_Stats/fla_model.htm This is an international study. http://law.bepress.com/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=7212&context=expres The fact, and truth of the matter is we are safer with guns than without. However there is such a thing as too much gun to handle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxEUlh6rytI&NR=1 Thank God Patrick Henry was a radical....
  10. I don't care who you are THAT's too funny............[]
  11. Coytee, you are correct. I thought there were more stock traders here that dabbled in the dark arts, but obviously I'm wrong [*-)] TA isn't fool proof, it all depends upon the fool doing the analysis.. I can say that I've seen and experienced enough to become a believer though. Like anything, the more you practice, the better you get. If anyone is interested in the subject, this book is an excellent place to start. http://www.amazon.com/Trading-Living-Psychology-Tactics-Management/dp/0471592242/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1244897857&sr=8-1 Ford did fall as expected, as well as Boeing. Next question is the re-entry point for a swing trade. Frankly, the overall market looks weak to me at the moment and is postureing for a pull back. A quick give away is the market volume is falling, while price is going up. Not a good thing. There are a few other signs too that are signaling a pull back. It may go up a little more before it retreats though. Time will tell. For those of you expecting a little of the other TA. Maybe your eyes can feast upon this
  12. I think the overall market is due for a little correction. I just dumped all of my Ford because my reading of the tea leaves saw bearish divergences in several of the indicators... that and a potential double top forming. Yeah, I know there's not a lot of time between the tops, but they did have over a 10% draw down between them.. I'm not expecting a large retreat, but the chance of buying back in at a lower price seems to be an opportunity here. There's a gap that needs to be filled also. Boeing had a nice sustainable trend going, but has really accelerated in the past few days, so it too is probably going to get a light spanking. Anybody else out there seeing or agreeing with what I see?? Hell, even if you disagree, I'm all ears [] THANKS
  13. That's possible, but I don't think was the case in this instance. I'll never know for sure. I do know that when this happened, wireless routers were not as secure and there are several tutorials on Youtube giving step by step directions on breaking in. 60 minutes did a piece on TJ Maxx, and how thieves were breaking into their wireless and obtaining CC numbers also.
  14. It happend to us. We never lost possession of the card, but I think what happened was that someone sniffed the cards data and pin number out of the air. The only place we could come up with where the card might had been captured was during a trip to Bush Gardens. Wh charged some items in one of thier gift shops where there was a street and parking lot on the other side of the shop wall. I have visions so some guy sitting in a car w/ a laptop filtering all of the wireless transactions. I could be wrong, but it's the only place, and scenario that made any sense.
  15. You should check these guys out http://www.bootyband.com/ When we were in Asheville last year we ate here http://www.edbbq.com/asheville-restaurant.php as they had a nice selection of microbrews to go with the excellent BBQ. Anyway, we got to talking to our waiter, and learned that he was a horn player for Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band and he just happened to have a copy of their CD on him........ which he threw on the CD player...We had a good time there, and plan to go back again.
  16. Keep in mind I would never do this myself...nor would I suggest you do so. The process outlined below is for amusement/entertainment purposes only.[6].. Step 1 wait until 1 AM Step 2 turn off neighbors water at the water meter by the street Step 3 Mix a 60 pound bag of Ready Mix concrete and pour into water meter cavity. Throw in some chicken wire, rebar, or other just for good measure. Step 4 put lid back over water meter Step 5 TP their tree, and do your lawn too while you're at it, but not as bad of course. Make it look like a teen prank. This may not solve your issue, but you'll be laughing so hard that you'll forget about whatever it was that was bothering you. BTW, Copper Sulfate will take out the offending tree. Just plant three on your side as replacements to be carbon free after you offer to cut their dead tree up to use as fire wood. As far as HOA's I don't have one, nor would I live anywhere that did. However, I had a boss that did and he like everyone else had issues with them. The president of the HOA was being a real richard crainium, so my boss started doing a little digging. Everyone, so it seems has a little something to hide. In this case it was ole el presidente'. It seems he had added an illegal back porch on to his house, but never pulled any permits. So the boss, made sure that the el pesidente' knew that he knew, and if he EVER received another complaint about anything, he would make sure the city knew about his secret too, including paying back taxes due on his little home improvement project. El presidente' never bothered him again. Search the City/County arrest records or other records for those being offensive to you. You never know what you might find... I think I'd better go now..........
  17. I think that anyone that has shot a few automobiles, or done any kind of body work at all and has a good handle on spraying would agree it will provide an excellent finish. Fifteen minutes of prep time and three minutes to shoot per side, another five to rinse out the gun and you're done...with an excellent finish, What's there not to like? A newbie should probably lay the door flat, while someone w/ experience would stand the door up. I'm not so sure that I'd be using a house paint over a metal door anyway. Certainly not where I live, but not every one has to deal with salt air... Here's a question for you...Would anyone here paint their car with a brush? Why not? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you can't get good results with a brush, but with the labor/time factor, and finish results, why would you? I'm not looking to start an argument, but if there's a valid point I'm missing and need to be educated on, hey I'm game to learn. It wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.... Need a cheap gun?? These are often on sale for $20 http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=43430
  18. Strip both sides and then shoot one side at a time. You'll never use a brush or roller again... Just make sure the door is lying flat, if you've never shot before. I don't want to hear about you getting a case of the runs.... The graphics for the stripper was very nice, the graphic for the runs...we don't need to see...[8-)]. You'll need to shoot a good coat of primer after stripping off the factory finish.
  19. yeah, there's nothing quite like having a stripper relieve all of your mental anguish on a paint job gone wrong..[] I use Penetrol on my Hobie..
  20. Re: I feel that all Congressmen and Senators should be required to wear uniforms informing us who there corporate sponsors are..... Sort of like a NASCAR jumpsuit. Boy, if that's not the truth...
  21. I have three LaScalas and a RT-12d. I too think they're perfect for each other and am quite happy with the sound. I know in another thread here, it was argued they don't go as low as Brand X. Maybe they're right, but I'll never know it, as I have zero pipe organ CD's to verify... I do know it'll shake the crap out of the house....in a controlled manner of course..........
  22. I'd shoot the door, if it were mine. You can't beat a sprayed finish. There's bound to be automobile paint suppliers in your town. Fiberglass doors are great. I just replaced three rusted out steel doors. with foam core, plastic wood framed, fiberglass doors. No wood to rot or warp. No termites. No rust. Best exterior entry doors for my location.
  23. I think the wheels are turning now. This Mexican drug cartel battle, has the Mexican govt. calling foul on the US. I can't help but think something ugly is about to be born because out of it, Perfect opportunity for Obama, unfortunately.. There's an irony here of sorts. It used to be things were only smuggled out of Mexico, now it's a two way street, but I guess the Mexicans, haven't been searing cars coming in the same way the US does. Once again, it's OUR fault.....
  24. I don't have a conceal carry, but often have thought about getting one. Dean, you're right, most gun owners do need more practice, but practice or not, I'd rather be armed than not. I think all gun owners should also have to take a gun safety course. Would the NRA support that I don't know. I called around locally to try to find a gun safety course for kids, but there are none. Once of the local indoor ranges has kids competition shooting, but no safety course. Go figure, Speaking of kids, in that video, it shows kids playing with hand guns, which oddly enough were in the 'toy box",...quick pan to the shocked faces of the parents. What a setup for failure.... How many of those parents own guns? How many of those that do, have taught their kids about guns? How many of those kids without any training would be able to tell a real gun from a toy gun? ( the gun control advocates could use this line as well, I'm sure)
  25. There are several points that one could pick apart in the classroom shootout alone. Expert shooter bad guy, trained in threat elimination, against novice. Expert shooter knows who the novice is and eliminates him immediately. Notice they all sat in the exact same middle chair? That was easy... Calling time out, before the one novice can defend. The bad guy did get shot in the upper thigh, near a major artery, but they downplayed that...did he get shot before the defender was shot?? They didn't say, but led you to believe otherwise. In real life he would have been down and bleeding to death. I was really disappointed in the show. I thought for once, given the air play prior to the show, that it was going to be a balanced report, not some hack job. What was I thinking?[:$] What's funny, is 99% of the comments are slamming ABC's bias. There should be a few thousand comments, but ABC keeps deleting many of them. Sadly, the irony is glaring, ABC wants to kill our 2nd Amendment rights, while they're censoring our 1st...and in the end it'll be the 2nd that protects the 1st. Go figure. Loved the teen looking down the barrel with a flashlight. There's a Darwin candidate for you, but should he count as a gun related death?? That's the real problem. It's not the guns it's the bad genes............... Another queation that begs an answer is will the ATF arrest the poducers of the show for gun law violations in the "straw purchase" of the firearms at the gun show? Why should they be immune from prosecution?
