  1. Powered my Khorns for years with a 1.5Mt along with the C-1 preamp. The sonic hologram back in the day was pretty cool. I agree with previous posts. There was always a predominant hiss coming from the speakers which was annoying. There is tons of power however. Going to a simple DIY 2A3 PP 12WPC amp enlightened me to how quiet the Khorns are with a nice driving signal not to mention the soundstage. You could run thesw e with a 9V battery. I didn't like the hiss and a harsh mid to high response that Carver and Klipsch seemed to produce.
  2. Richard, Sorry about the water spot -- hopefully it will not return. Sounds (or in your case, not sounds!) like you have a nice quiet amp there -- GREAT!! The CD was "Sinatra at the Sands, with Count Basie's Orchestra". This is definately one everyone should have for their collection. When all is set up, you will experience an excellent soundstage on may of the cuts. Have fun listening and shopping for tube gear. Older McIntosh and Klipsch are a nice "old school" combination. Dynaco isn't a bad choice either. Take care
  3. Boy -- those Horns look strangely familiar!! Looks is one thing Richard, and I must say, they looked like they were kept in great condition!! (LOL) -- how do they sound compared what you heard in my basement with the 2A3 driving "warmth"? Did you pick up the Eagles CD yet? Hotel California live ALWAYS made those beauties rock. Enjoy, glad they are in a nice home and that mama is starting to get used to them. BTW -- to all here -- rich is a great guy and very personable. Can't be too bad, loving Klipsch, drives a volvo and wears a Tag (inside joke) ENJOY -- I fired up the Forte's last nite. They are sounding great!
  4. to all that have enjoyed the post and who care, Coytee pickup up my / his babies last night. He is tickled!!! Today, he's back to Knoxville figuring out how this will be expalined to Wifie. We both discussed some good strategies!! His issues have just begun however......... The audition was with my 2A3 PP amp which has ZERO noise, depending on the recordings. Going back to SS, unless it's real high grade may prompt him to have something else on his Christmas list! Thanks to all you helped in this transaction, reagarding the method of transporting these. Well, time to take the Forte's out of the box and use them as the mains. It's a bittersweet day, but I'm still part of the Klipsch family -- I will NEVER sell the Forte's.
  5. Pictures, finish, etc., are appreciated
  6. Due to Size constraints, I am forced to sell my Khorns. Fortunately, I found a very happy buyer on this forum and now need to use my original 1986 Forte's as my mains. It will be good to use them again -- they were rears for so long. I would NEVER sell my Fortes -- they are a great speaker and just love the 2A3 PP warmth. Happy listening
  7. I am considering the 3805 but have also liked the 2805. I would be driving Forte's for mains and KG-1's for rears with a older KTLCR center. Is the extra $$ for the 3805 really worth it from a DAC and power standpoint? Thanks
  8. I too have built a 2A3 amp from China and find my Khorns and Fortes sound excelent compared to their prior Carver source. Soundstage is great and the "warmth" is very nice. I would do it again also.
  9. NOS -- You've been sniffing too much NOS!!! Yeah -- that was me. Still listening to it? BTW -- Sold the KHorns here yesterday due to space considerations, will have to live with the Forte's for HT in the basement now. (The 2A3 PP make them sound nice too) Oh well, at least they will be getting a nice home to someone who can appreciate them instead of movin them on E-bay. Good to hear from you again NOS.
  10. Sold to Coyote -- thanks for all the interest and I trust we will be hearing from him here after he has them set up in his home. Boy he is in trouble though. I offered to have him audition them driven direct from my 2A3 PP amp and Denon 2200. His wife will be screaming when we decides to upgrade from SS!!! Just kiddin.............. Brap
  11. Sinatra at the Sands with Count Basie is a MUST. With my Korns being driven direct from a Denon 2200 to a 2A3PP amp, the soundsatge is amazing. You can actually hear (and closing your eyes, see)him moving the microphone from the left side to the right side of his mouth!! "One for my baby and one for the road" is my favorite. not to mention you think a waiter is clearing off your table in a few songs. Enjoy!!
  12. I sent you a PM -- Are you seling a 3805? Price please?

    Denon 2805

Thanks , pulling up the comparisons now. Oh -- can't fool you, 98db is correct.

    Denon 2805

Thanks! Forte's have a 96 spl rating, I push them just fine with a 12WPC 2A3 PP amp now. The rears would be KG-1's and with 100 watts the 2805 has, seems like that's adequate. 3805 is a little out of the price range I think.
