  1. Efontaine,

Check the Dealer Locator on the home page of this forum for a dealer that is close to you (hopefully there will be one or two...). It would be extrememly difficult, if not impossible, to hear any speakers properly in a Best Buy/Circuit City type of environment and make a good decision based upon what you heard there. I would urge you to seek out the smaller high-end stereo shops near you or in your surrounding area. You should be able to stop in there with your own music in hand and listen to a number of different systems in an A vs. B setting. That will help you determing the best setup for you based upon what sounds best to YOU.

Also-take your time and do thorough research. You will not regret it!!!

  2. "If you have the time, just write a long, to the point post that just lists all your questions in a laundry list. People here are always open to helping otheres. "

That is very true. The members of this forum have been very helpful to me with some of my questions. (I am a fellow newbie...) However, some of us just are not sure of what questions even need to be asked.

FYI-there was a book listed on the home page of the Klipsch website fairly recently that may be just what you are looking for. I haven't noticed it lately, but it may still be somewhere on this site.

  3. I purchased my Reference system last fall and got almost exactly the same price from my local dealer that I could get online. Spend some time with your local Klipsch dealer, let them know that you will be a repeat customer and you will probably get a great deal. I don't think anyone pays the actual retail price for their speakers...

  4. I don't want to hijack this thread, but I do have some of the same/similar questions as nu2ht, so I thought it would be good to post here, rather than starting another thread.

My current system: RF-7, RS-7, RC-7 and RSW-15 with a Yamaha 5560 receiver. I have heard the B&K Ref 50 with the Ref 200.7 amp and really like the sound. However, the price is just out of range for me right now. The B&K 507 is slightly less and will do about the same thing. (Am I right here?)

The Outlaw setup with their 950 processor and amp can be had for a pretty low price. This is a fairly subjective question, but how much difference would I find between the 50/200.7, the 507 and the Outlaw setup keeping in mind price to value?

I guess the bottom line is this: What do you get when you spend more money moving from the Outlaw to the 507 to the 50/200.7?

  5. I'm guessing it's just me, but I can't see the picture (or link to a pic) in your first post. The link shows up in the second one (about the shelf construction) but not the first. Anyone else having this problem?

  6. We just watched it last night-great movie. The thunder and gunshots were just tremendous. I agree with the earlier post-I don't recall hearing shots that were so realistic sounding (with closeness in mind). Very nice cinematography as well. I read that this film was filmed in Canada-anyone know whereabouts?

  7. 007 - Dude, these things are the shizzie!!! They may not look like much (to some of the younger generation) but they are sweet sounding speaks, dude! These corner quakers (CA reference) will totally rock your world!!! The next time you bump your melon from a bad thrashing on your board and have to chill for a while, you totally need to check out the tunes these bad-boy K-horns can throw!

Translation: 007, Young man, the K-horn speakers are a wonderful sounding speaker that will thrill you to no end. They may not look like much (then again, neither do you Gen Xers) but they produce a beautiful sound. These corner-placed speakers will really enthrall you with the rich and smooth tones they produce. The next time you fall off your skateboard and bump your head, forcing you to stay still for a moment (yeah right), take a listen to the Klipschorns. You won't be dissappointed!

I stopped by my local dealer's place a year or more ago and he had a pair of used K-horns in the shop. I asked him what those things were-thinking a humidifier/air purifier or something. (kidding, to a point) He spoke in awe of these Klipschorns, or K-horns as he called them. I wondered why someone would want something so large in their home. Then, he played them for me..... All I can say is, "Wow!" They sounded just awesome. No matter what music he demo'd for me, it was pute joy listening to these babies rock. When you crank them up really loud, they truly will give you the sensation of a live event. They are a large speaker, but so are my RF-7s, the configuration is just a bit different. K-horns-larger corner footprint, but much shorter than the RF-7s. RF-7s-smaller footprint, but much taller and noticeable in the room. I would almost say that the K-horns are less noticeable than the RF-7.

  8. I just heard about the AVIA home theater setup disk. I haven't been able to find it at Best Buy or Circuit City, although BB does have one recommended by Sound & Vision mag. (Seems like the software company is Ovation.) Any recommendations on where to purchase?

  9. Backburner wrote, "Mankind is doomed if we persist in living in the past. Were suppose to learn from our mistakes not arbour grudges that last for centuries"

Backburner-what did you think of Schindler's List?

What is the basis for the accusations of this movie being made purely for commercial (i.e. profit) reasons? Have you seen the interviews with Mel? I have, and it would appear that profit is one of the last things on his mind, IMHO. In fact, it seems to me that Mel went to extraordinary measures when creating this movie to depict what actually happened, which is quite different than today's mainstream Hollywood who seem to produce movies that are quite revisionist in nature.
