  1. I honestly cannot hear a difference between a well encoded mp3 and the original source
  2. I'd like to hear what he thought was depressing about the audition.
  3. Instead of simply saying it was depressing, you should elaborate a little more so we know exactly what you're talking about.
  4. I thought caulking of the Forte's horns made no significant difference since they aren't made of metal
  5. I think there is a really old thread about this, somewhere.
  6. So where do we sign up to receive donations?? =)
  7. harshness is usually not associated with frequencies exceeding 17 khz and what does 'being made in the 40s' have to do with anything?
  8. Why do you need to hook the Kenwood up to the Scott?
  9. I always thought +10db was twice as loud
  10. If I remember correctly, Trey responded to a similar thread saying to replace the Heresy's woofer with a K-28-EP. Apparently, this will give it bass extension down to 39hz(!) and has better power handling. I believe you can call Klipsch for these. I haven't tried this and I don't know what disadvantages there are in using the K-28-EP.
  11. The louder setting is the correct one.

  13. so wait, I'm guessing we take the "hood" off the 430 when we spray the pots with tuner cleaner, right? I took off the volume knob and it doesn't look like spraying through there would be too effective...
  14. Read the FAQs on the SVS website, they are very informative.

  16. What else do you find that you do not like about the Heresys?
  17. Let me try to make it slightly clearer. When I play music normally, I cannot hear this distortion at all. However, if I run the music through a filter and only pass 6000hz-20khz to the speaker, I can hear distortion from the tweeter. As for the crossover leaking midrange, you can scratch that off, I wasn't thinking when I wrote that. If I only output 6000hz+ to the speaker, there would be no lower frequencies anyway.
  18. Some sounds from the tweeter on one of my Forte sounds a bit... distorted. I really didn't notice it, but I ran a songs through a frequency limiting type filter, at 6000hz-20,000khz only and noticed odd sounds, from one Forte only. My left channel sounds fine, however my right side has an annoying distortion (but I can't hear it playing music normally!) I've switched the channels on the receiver and the problem comes up on only the one speaker. It's rather odd, it sounded like the midrange driver was coming on intermittently, since it sounds slightly lower in frequency than what the tweeter would handle, but a quick inspection by ear revealed the sounds to be coming from the tweeter. The sound comes up on high frequency noises (especially after the singers says something with an S) and is a tad louder (and lower) than the rest of the tweeters output, it almost sounds like a scratching. I cannot hear it while playing music normally but it is bugging me knowing something isn't working right. The tweeter sounds fine on a normal frequency sweep. Would a simple diaphragm change fix this? Or is it something a bit more serious? Could it possibly be the crossover leaking lower frequency sounds into the tweeter, if that's even possible.
  19. Right now, if you wanted a new Heritage speaker, you would have to settle for a huge speaker (Belle, La Scala, Khorn) or the Heresey. There isn't any really mid-sized floorstander. I think it'd be cool if they offered maybe the Forte/Chorus or Cornwall again. They wouldn't need to mass produce them, just hand build 'em like they do now.
  20. The rear part of the cabinet on one of my Fortes rattles like mad. It's really annoying. I find that tilting the speaker forward so that it faces the floor gets rid of the rattle at moderate volumes but only reduces it slightly at higher SPLs.
  21. So gullahisland, did you ever try swapping the tweeters and/or crossovers?
