  1. I always thought it interesting that out of all the things they could have used as a 2nd Amendment, they came up with that one -- almost like it's holding up the first one. Talk about a paranoid bunch. Not really, if you look at early English law the ruling class was scared to death of the idea of armed peasants. If you read the Federalist Papers and other documents leading to the ratification of the Constitution it would actually be a toss up between freedom of speech and the right of the people to possess arms. Note: If you were hunting on lands owned by the ruling class and you were caught poaching for food to feed your family you were typically hung on site.
  2. Do you guys really think that the government is held in check by the fear of being militarily overthrown by you? I dont know, I would not be the first time!
  3. This "Constitutional Argument" never ceases to fully amaze me in it's obfuscating power. HELLO! It's a hunk of paper representing doctrine as appropos the time in which it was written! As it is just a hunk of paper lets dump it, but lets not do it piecemeal. The first will be what else, the 1st Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. MLK would still be alive as he would have been forbidden by law to assemble and SPEAK! But a Judge can make laws or prohibiting the free exercise thereof!! You have already beaten up the second so we shall move on to the 3rd: No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law. Good idea, the hell with separate barracks for our military personnel save us some money. I mean having the military staying at YOUR house and all. Let see, the 4th states: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. Screw that, we dont need no stinking search warrant. Now the 5th: No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation. Hang the bastard! I will move on to the 8th: Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted. See 5 above! How about the 9th: The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people. A big one, in case some of you dont know what this means-'The language and history of the Ninth Amendment reveal that the Framers of the Constitution believed that THERE ARE ADDITIONAL FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS, PROTECTED FROM GOVERNMENTAL INFRINGEMENT, which exist alongside those fundamental rights specifically mentioned in the first eight constitutional amendments. . . . To hold that a right so basic and fundamental and so deep-rooted in our society as the right of privacy in marriage may be infringed because that right is not guaranteed in so many words by the first eight amendments to the Constitution is to ignore the Ninth Amendment and to give it no effect whatsoever. Moreover, a judicial construction that this fundamental right is not protected by the Constitution because it is not mentioned in explicit terms by one of the first eight amendments or elsewhere in the Constitution would violate the Ninth Amendment (I borrowed this as it was well written) No it is the greatest instrument ever written allowing human beings to govern and protect themselves as individuals from the GOVERNMENT. You do not think that it fits your life(style), fine-dont care, no really, I dont care what you think. But I have seen the eyes of the oppressed and I doubt that you see them in the mirror every morning when you shave!! Not to mention they well understood the shortcomings of it and provide a MEANS TO CHANGE IT. And we did - 27 TIMES this far and counting. Yes we have, but we have not deleted the original 10 as they are basic to a FREE PEOPLE! I am not religious at all I will not say what I really think as I would undoubtedly offend some that are deeply religious.

  5. What would I do if I were an American? Well - probably press my representative for legislation to enforce licensing of guns on the basis of a test alongside the character reference stuff. Think of getting a car license and apply the relevant bits to guns The issue here is citizens of the US do not have a right to drive a car, it is a privilege that can be revoked at will (yes it can, look it up). As far as licensing goes, who will register? Criminals? There are literally hundreds of laws on the books now that make illegal for a good many people to be near guns. We can look north at their licensing scheme; you remember the one that they promised would only cost 2 million dollars. In the rear 2005 it will surpass one Billion and may be, read may be, 5-10% accurate! Now, the US has what 100-200 times the quantity of firearms. Clinton wanted to follow Canadas lead but besides being unrealistic the cost would have been in the hundreds and hundreds of Billions. Test, test what, to see if a citizen is good enough to be afforded the rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States. I understand that you are not an American citizen so you may not know but The Constitution of the United States was not written to give rights to the Government, on the contrary, the Government is granted powers and authorities but not rights. The People have rights, as individuals and/or as a collective (State). This concludes the educational portion of our program.
  6. For starters, I could see that 6 wild young men with 2 pickup trucks, 10 shotguns and 5 cases of beer was a surefire recipe for disaster. Then I, or one of them, would have to become the "victim" of something and the whole process of "victim and circumstance" would begin. Agreed, but then I believe it becomes a matter of upbringing. For instance, I was brought up around guns, my Great Grand Father on my fathers side lived in Canada after coming from the old country and firearms put food on the table (hence the tool). His son moved to Idaho, Washington and eventually to California and firearms more often than not put food on his table. My father hunted with his father and so on as I do with my son. As I was growing up all of my dads (and my) firearms were stored under my bed in my room. It never dawned on me to play with them as toys as it seems I always knew what they were. My teen years were cut-off by Vietnam, 2 pickup trucks, 10 shotguns and 5 cases of beer were not in my immediate future and as I mentioned earlier, I always knew what guns really were and it would have never dawned on me to mix guns with alcohol (alcohol and football games are another issue). As a side note my Grand Father on my mothers side came through Ellis Island and shopped to put food on the table so it is fairly easy to see were you are coming from.

  9. I think the "idea" of guns is bad and immature and irresponsible and stupid and destructive and counterproductive. Be that as it may, there is nothing you can do about it as long as another person disagrees with your point of view (not trying to sound aggressive, flippant or otherwise, that too is life). But from a spirit viewpoint guns were not invented as "toys" or "entertainment," but rather to kill other living things. It is not like a hammer or chisel for splitting rocks. It is not just another "tool." It is a more efficient means of killing other life. And that's what it is. Granted, they were invented to replace the bow and arrow, lance and sword. They have been used to oppress and defend against oppressors. They have been used as a tool to feed the families and the masses. They have also found there way into the world of sports just as the lance, sword and the bow and arrow. But regardless, they are tools nonetheless!

  11. A couple of thoughts, One thing I have always found interesting is that the murder rate in the US includes justifiable homicide to include deaths committed during a crime by law enforcement. Some argue that the availability of firearms in the US results in our high suicide rate yet Japan, a country which does not allow private firearms ownership has 4 times the suicide rate as the US. London has a higher murder by firearms rate than any city in the US even though private ownership of firearms was banned in 1998. Australias murder and aggravated assault rate jumped substantially when firearms were banned. Arent you more likely to be mowed down by said lunatics 3 ton SUV than stabbed by his huge knife? Please, Talk about obsession with inanimate objects, what is up with SUVs. They are just vehicles for #### sakes. A person hits a pedestrian in a crosswalk with a Honda Accord its a shame, a person hits a pedestrian in a crosswalk with a SUV its front page news in the NY Times and every talk show in the nation for days! But I digress, I have brandished a firearm twice as a civilian, one during an attempted home invasion where the police refused to respond the second time while confronting two knife wielding individuals who were attempting to steal my car in my driveway. No shots were fired and I have left the State of California and though I have had a canceled carry permit for over eight years, I find little reason to carry.
  12. I have to agree with Jabez Scratch, run everything through your receiver. On the 55 you can rename the inputs and I believe (read hope) that there is a huge future for iLink components. If you like DVDs as I do the Pioneer DV-47Ai with iLink is a great DVD player. I understand that it has the Chroma Bug but I can not see it and for $585 or so you cant go wrong. As far as a remote goes I use the Pronto 3000 and program everything into it via the USB. Only way to go!

  22. Anyone know how to convert a WAV to an MPG file for test tones? I can produce tones for my computer but I want to burn a CD to test my audio system and my CD will not play WAV.

Think about it, 150 fold? It has been estimated that firearms are used up to 2 million times a year for legitimate self defense. Let say that is as exaggeration and it is only 1% of the estimate.   24. This is from the UPS site: Smart-UPS (SU700 or higher), Matrix-UPS, Symmetra and Silcon product families produce a pure sine when operating on battery. I use the smart UPS and can not tell the difference.
