    Vacation

Well, Guess I wasn't absent as long as I had planned! We're in Moscow and have a "Down day" so I thought I'd pop on the forum. So far, trip has been really nice. Just did a driving tour yesterday - we're going in the Kremlin / Red Square and a couple cathdrals tomorrow. It's cool and rainy, a perfect change from Oman! First impression - absolutely beautiful country. The down-town area is just like you see in the photos, but you drive 20 miles out of town and the entire area is woods. Bad news is the traffic. Took us 2+ hours yesterday to cover those 20 miles. Colin - No Klipsch dealer in Oman, but a 4 hour drive gets you to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. That's where I bought my stuff. Need to catch up on the other posts now. Take care - will check in again later if I can.

    Vacation

Good people, I am heading out the door for a much anticipated vacation. First to Moscow and St. Petersburg, then on to the good-ole US for a while. I will miss reading this forum and look forward to catching back up on my return - hopefully with stories of new audio demos, and likely purchases. Take care -
  3. I had the honor of meeting Pres Reagan in the mid 1980's (I got to drive in his Presidential motor pool when he came to tour the B-1 plant in Palmdale Ca). Very sad to hear of his passing, but he sure led a great life (excluding the last 10 sad years). Count me in - God Bless America
  4. Polk, B&W and NHT may be more to your liking. I do agree with the above statements - the 7's aren't harsh, they're revealing. If you listened to a set up with poor amplification or room acoustics, that will come through on the Klipsch (other speakers aren't as sensitive and you may be able to get away with lower quality components - in my experience anyway). With proper set up, they are far from harsh and are much better than most speakers at allowing the intended sound to come through. That being said, it's all about personal preference. Good luck in your search.
  5. Agree with the above. Match your front 3 speakers. Most of us don't have ideal rooms - just do the "best you can" on the rears. I've had Yamaha, Denon and now Rotel. Sound quality on the Rotel is superior - more detailed, better separation on surround channels and better bass at low volume. You don't get a lot of "bells and whistles" with Rotel - just depends what you are looking for. Also - as noted above the Receiver is basically 3 units built into one box. That adds convenience and saves money, but you also have to make some trade-offs. That much stuff in one box may cause more noice and they have to use smaller (usually less quality) components. Also, if you want to upgrade you end up replacing the whole thing. With separates, you can upgrade your processor but keep your amp, etc...
  6. Kenratboy - You're 19 and have 3500+ posts! Quick, someone get this young man a girl!
  7. That's what I do. I have the processor's cross-over set at 80 hz and connect the processor to the sub's L/R inputs. The cross over on the sub is then set to the max position - 120 hz I believe. Is it just me, or are subs a lot of work (fun work and worth it, but not a "plug and play" option).
  8. David - Thanks for the quick review. I'm very interested in how these sound - specifically, how they compare to the 7 series. I can't wait to hear these myself.
  9. I went to their web site, logged the problem and returned the empty box. No idea what will happen yet (I'll let you know). Honestly, I don't even care. You guys have made me laugh so much it was worth the $40. Maybe worth $50 - should I sent Amazon an extra $10?
  10. What's getting me is this video is on everyday, which must mean it must be popular. I'm trying, but I can't see who would like this. It's an insult to Floyed fans (like me), it's not a dance version and isn't a wrap re-make (both of which would have some audience). It's like bad elevator music - I know that's redundant. Anyway, just needed to vent a bit.
  11. Oh God, there are two remakes!? I just saw the one I was talking about and the group is called "Scissor Sisters". Wasn't a dance mix - just bad.
  12. I just came from the Gym and on the music video channel they played a remake of Comfortably Numb. It was a guy and girl - didn't catch the name - and looked to be kind of 80's in style but I don't remember hearing it back then. Anyway, it's been on every day for the last few weeks. Is this new, or is the Middle East just getting to 80's music? Are any of you being subjected to this? Some songs should never be remade - especially poorly.
  13. "Anyone else out there have the same opinion, and does the rc 7 also have issues?" No - the RC-7 is a top-notch speaker (for center or otherwise).
  14. Before you give up on the RS-7's for surrounds, try to give them a listen. They spread the sound more than the bookshelves, that's the point. If you're going to have a 5.1 system in a large room, you may prefer this sound. All about preference. Also, you say you're building a room and it's about to be square. I've read square is actually not the best option for a home theater room. If you're building it and have options, may want to pursue that before getting too far into it (forum members here will likely know). You asked above if you need an amp and a receiver. Generally no - a receiver already has an amp built in. With that budget, I'd look into separates instead of the receiver (need and amp and processor). B&K, Rotel, Parasound... a lot of good options.
  15. Great review - Dean is sure getting a lot of positive responses.
  16. Given that this is a "Klipsch" forum, the opinions you get here may be biased . With that qualification, the Ref 7 package is really, really nice - I haven't demoed the others on your list either, but the 7's are hard to beat. On the subs, if I had it all to do over, I'd seriously look into the SVS. Never seen anything but glowing reviews. Regarding receivers and power, Klipsch are very sensitive speakers and don't require a lot of power (still some benefits to more power). Power is not the issue with Klipsch, quality is. They are so sensitive that they will reveal a poor receiver (and allow a good one to shine). There are some very nice receivers out there (B&K probably gets the best reviews here). Separates should also be considered (B&K, Rotel, Parasound...). Good luck
  17. And the anticipation builds while it sits unused
  18. So how do you "use" the LFE on the sub? Right now, I have 1 RCA cable going from my sub-out on my processor to a "Y-split cable" which then connects to the left and right on the sub. Should I have another RCA cable going from the LFE outlet on the processor to the LFE on the sub? I can't even recall right now if my processor has a separate LFE out (I know it has 2 sub-outs). I get really good bass on 5.1 sound, but maybe I'm missing out on more.
  19. Wow - great price if anyone is looking.
  20. Radio shack has both a digital and an analog meter. I've heard (mostly on this forum) that the analog is the better option. That's what I have and it's easy to use and I've never noted any problems. The different frequencies are played using a test disc and the meter tells you now loud it plays.
  21. That's it! It's a clear disc. Unfortunately, I put it in my clear DVD player and now I can't find either

    Placement

On the sides facing in, and slighty behind the seating area. I've tried mine in a variety of locations and this is what sounds best to me. I've had room limitations that required them to be behind - it's not bad, but I prefer the sides.
  23. I ordered the Avia test disc from Amazon.com (new). It showed up yesterday - the DVD case appeared to be sealed, but there was no disc! Also, no paper work inside, just an advertisement for a home theater magazine. How weird is that!

    RS7 on the way

Nice set-up. I hope you like the RS.
