  1. How does the 2a3 SET sound compared to push pull tubes?
  2. Get a multi format unit that will play sacd,cd,cdr, etc.I have some old cd's around 20 yrs now that still sound new.Albums tend to pop and make all kind of other noise unless you spend quite a bit on the turntable/cartridge and cleaning .And even then many albums will still suck.cd's are also sounding better all the time whether its through better recording or improvemnets in technology. If you like jazz though get the turntable as there is far too much music in jazz that has only been released on album.

If the female vocal doesn't sound "right" - I just won't like the speaker, period. I think one common difficulty is crossing from a large woofer to a smaller anything in the range of 1Khz - 2Khz. I've generally found that large cones need to be out of play above 500Hz. Obviously that's a generality, but it's been my finding. The exception is the smaller 6" bookshelf woofers, which often do a better job as a midrange driver than as a woofer anyway. When a woofer is doing duty at 1KHz, just look at it's displacement visually. It is moving back and forth at several multiples of 1Khz wavelength. This can't be good for phase coherance. mdeneen ---------------- But would you call an 8 inch anodized aluminum woofer a large woofer? Some female voices sound great ,like Enya's but Roberta Flack can seem a touch off in a couple ares. The rf3II 's crossover , I think is between 1-2khz.I haven't found any speakers that had a more dynamic, you are there kind of sound in this price range.I love the live type of sound.Avantegarde uno's are way out of my league.
  4. I haven't heard her recently but she sounded great.I don't know if it was because she got into her music or if it was ust her interpretation.

If you do a search, perhaps you might find the thread, or perhaps someone else might know of the thread and can guide you to it (i can't find it). (granted, there are a lot more factors involved when building a speaker, but i just wanted to point out that klipsch does acknowledge the problem). ---------------- It's not quite that female vocals sound bad just that some seem a touch off. Is the three- way a fix to the probem? I don't believe that Klipsch is producing any more three ways just two way speakers. Paired with a tube amp ,I'm happy with these speakers for everything except for some female vocals. I'll look to see if I can find the thread. Thanks.
  6. I have Klipsch RF3 II's. And I like them quite a bit but does anyone seem to notice anything different with female vocals down somewhere in the lower mid range.Maybe I'm imagining it. I wonder if three ways with dedicated mid range speakers have that sound?

We'd lift the ground and reverse the plug. The downfall of course is that the musicians holding their electrified instruments were more prone to receiving a shock. It's amazing how bright the spark can be that jumps from a singing electric guitarist's lips to the microphone! http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/images/smilies/6.gif"> {Very true!} The hum could be an indication of some problem in your home's electrical system. It's more common in older homes. A good-quality line filter may work as well. Thanks for sharing your story with the rest of us. http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/images/smilies/2.gif"> ---------------- Except that I had this house built just 10 yrs ago. Never had any electrical problems except for this.I don't know what causes ground loops.
  8. Try a 3 to two ground plug and plug your amp into that.It works on ground loops if that is the problem.
  9. Initially when hooking up my Jolida tube amp I was getting a hum from my speakers.I was told by a tube guy that it could be caused from a ground loop. The solution was a three to two ground plug for the amps outlet.no more hum. Just thought you might be interetsed.
  10. I got the 302B. I liked my Rotel but after a few hours I sometimes got fatigued-ear strainor something like that.
  11. I was just wondering what you guys thought.I had heard that they sound best after about 100 hours burn in. I don't quite understand why though. And I'm not sure if that is true. I love the new Jolida ,sounds good already. Most importantly it has gotten rid of the sound fatigue that I used to get.
  12. Tannoy Churchills? One of my dream speakers. How do they sound? How do they stack up for quality of sound to your Klipschorns? Just wondering. The best speakers i have heard have been avantgarde unos or (?)maybe duo's.

He is a great guitarist, but he plays too fast, i want some good sounding smooth nylon guitar action. I have acoustic alchemy and la vienta already.. I like both of those alot. Sacd if favored to normal cd. Thanks! ---------------- Andres Segovia was a great classical guitarist. I had one of his albums but hadn't heard him on CD. Carlos Montoya could make a guitar sound like two guitars. He was an extremely fast flamenco(by spanish did u mean flamenco?) guitarist.Again I had one of his albums but hadn't heard him on cd.

It sounds quite good and sell for about 250.00. My last sony changer which didn't sound nearly as good only lasted for about 5 yrs but by then I was ready for an upgrade anyway.

I had been whining to my wife for some time now.The trick is to save up enough money that you don't have to take much from the family budget to finance it. That way they don't complain as much. Though my wife still thinks its a waste of money,I'm also encouraging her to purchase cd's of the kind of music she likes. I figure that the more she listens to music the more receptive she'll be towards nicer sounding equipment. I'm also working some overtime and am selling a well liked rifle to help finance the purchase.

Rick ---------------- Its stock but I paid for an extra tape out connection in addition to the 4 source connections. I also have satellite and vhs .If I need the tape out for satellite I can still hook up my cassette deck to my rotel receiver.

I used to have a pair of RF-3 II's and sold them to a buddy, he is currently using them on a Marantz 2250 70's reciever and they pump out some nice bass, good clean smooth sound. Im sure they will sound better with that Jolida Tube amp. When will you recieve the amp? What are you using for CD player, wiring, etc...? ---------------- I have a sony nc 685v sacd/dvd/cd changer a technics rstr232 double cassette deck(really good sound for homemade cassettes). I had Kimber cable but the cat chewed on it and I got monster cable's 1.60 per ft heavy copper cable. And I have a 42 inch toshiba widescreen rear projection tv.
  18. from Bill at response audio. Can't wait to hear them on my Klipsch rf3 II's.
  19. I settled on the Sony DVP-NC685V.Its got a good sound. The only things I don't like on it are that if you want to program a selection of songs you have to go on screen to do it. Also their is a blue indicator light that is on when its playing and it can be annoying at times.

Let them compare the system with different tube gear from pp to set maybe even PWK's favorite tube the 2a3. I like looking at the audiophile mags the same way I like looking at autophile mags while I'll never afford the new v10 porsche it sure is pretty to look at. I would like to see an audiophile mag that actually reviews equipment not priced in the stratosphere. Thank god for online forums like this and audioasylum etc.. ---------------- Check out The sensible sound. They do reviews on good affordable equipment. You probably have to subscribe to get it as they don't seem to get carried by the local Barnes and Nobles
  21. I would spend around: -1,000 on speakers,rf35's,used rf7's,or one of the used heritage series. -1,000 on tube integrated amp,Jolida, cayin, etc. -300-500 for a cd player, njoe tjoeb,or maybe a good changer sony's 685 etc. -200 for a tuner like the teac or marantz, you can upgrade later. -35 to 50 for 2 12-15ft. runs of better quality monster cable -some decent radio shack gold plated interconnects like phoenix gold banana plugs.
  22. How easy is the cayin to bias? Do you have to take the cover off to be able to bias it?
  23. Get a tube integrated amp. You won't need a lot of power but the amp would have to have a low (?) idling noise so you don't get hiss through yur speakers.
  24. It looks like a good amp but I'm still leaning toward the 302b.
  25. Just saw it now.It looks great but right now I think I can squeeze out enough money for the base 302b amp(with the sale of my carbine). I can't afford the mods now so I'll probably buy the stock unit and see how it sounds before I try to modify it/have it modified.. I'm also saving up for a wedding .
