  1. KCBR. Consecutive serial #s. Stock AK-2 crossovers. I have the original bill of sale from 1986. Performance-wise they are 100%. Cosmetically - one speaker cabinet has an unfortunate scratch on the front panel and a bump on the side of the woofer bin, which was my carelessness when I was moving it, I brushed it against the bookshelf corner. The cabinets had a coat of poly on the outside. Since these were factory-unfinished raw birch, I was going to have them professionally veneered and oiled, but my circumstances have now changed. $1350 Local pick-up only.
  2. Can it be bridged for stereo?
  3. I can order it from Klipsch, but if anyone has a spare set of black grills for 1 speaker, please let me know.
  4. Does your friend have the box, remore, manual?
  5. Yep. I know the feeling. Photo of the Mona Lisa I took at the Louvre with my phone camera looks a heckofalot better than the original.
  6. I think it was Talleyrand who, when tutoring young diplomats, advised them never to act upon their first instinct, because usually the first instinct is the most honest one...
  7. Stronger solvents will strip the finish. Don't apply to or soak the surface as this may loosen the veneer. chris Thanks again. Just wanted to clarify. The Big Snowstorm is coming. Just the time to oil them Klispchorns.
  8. What would you suhggest using to clean the surfaces prior to applying the BLO? Cabinets look like they've never been cleaned or oiled by the previous owner.
  9. Yes, the painter who worked in our house lamented the lack of oil-based paint as well. Apprently, you can still source it through Benjamin Moore, which is what he did, and the finished job looks great, and according to him, will last longer than the water-based pints would. What would be your regimen for oiling the Khorns? First coat - a mixture of blo+mineral spirits? In what proportion? I also have a question on the removal of plant-stains on top of the upper bin . Previous owner's wife must've had a collection of plants. Stains are dark in color.
  10. Thanks, Chris. It appears that the BLO is what was used in theKlipsch factory.. I will use it on my speakers. I don't intent to cut it with Turpentine, like some do. The smell would be awful and it would linger on for days.
  11. Or every 3,000 hours. [H] I wonder what oil was originally used by the Klipsch factory wood-finishers. MY K-horns are 1983 vintage.
  12. What signs are we to look for to determine whether the veneered Khorn bins need an oilin'? Thanks!
  13. Just bought this rig at a local estate sale. 1983 K-horns in gorgeous oiled walnut, and the Rotel set-up from the mid-1990s - preamp, amp, cdp, cassette deck, and a Magnum Dynalab tuner, hooked up with the Audioquest interconnects and Esoteric Ultra speaker cables. $1300. [^] Now I've got to sell my 1986 KCBR K-horns. \
  14. Thanks, Rich! Perhaps I will take up this project some day. For now, put together the false corners made out of 3/4" wood panels. The bass has improved dramatically. I can feel it in my chest now. The LF can be clearly felt by putting the hand on the false corner side - there is palpable vibration. If anything, the 3/4" may not be enough thickness. The false corner design in the Klipsch manual shows a beefier framed construcion.
  15. Klipsch sells the LF cabinet grills (black only) for $180/pr. Do you know if the current production grills will fit the 1986 KHorns?
  16. 25" from the front or the back portion of the side grill?
  17. Thanks, guys. I'd rather have the original one, even if it's scratched up. It's just me, I guess. [6] Will be checking the ol' eBay.
  18. wallflower, If you're still around, please post your findings of VRDs vs. Pass Aleph. Thanks.
